Liverpool U21s’ latest outing brought a mix of encouragement and concern for manager Rob Page, although it was a positive debut for new January signing Mor Talla Ndiaye.
The young Reds slipped to a 2-0 defeat away at Manchester City, their first loss of 2026, with Floyd Samba and Isaiah Dada-Mascoll scoring either side of half-time on a night where Liverpool created chances but couldn’t find a way past an inspired home back line.
To make matters worse, the evening was overshadowed by another worrying setback for striker Jayden Danns, who was forced off before the break and continues to battle his way back from a series of injury blows that have stalled his momentum.
On a more positive note, the night will be remembered for the long-awaited debut of January signing Mor Talla Ndiaye, who finally pulled on a Liverpool shirt after a minor issue spotted during his medical delayed his first appearance. The Senegal youth international arrived in a £1 million deal from Amitie FC earlier this year, joining the U21s set-up after impressing at the FIFA U17 World Cup, where he helped his country reach the knockout stages.
Speaking after the game, Page could not hide his delight at how the teenager handled the step up: “Really pleased with Mor. I can only imagine the transition going from where he’s been, the teams he’s played for, to coming into this environment, and he’s done it with absolute class. And he deserved that tonight. He’s given a great account of himself,” the U21 boss said to RedMen TV.
For Liverpool, it feels like the start of a carefully planned pathway: a low-cost, high-upside defender bedding in quietly at Kirkby.
