Cristiano Ronaldo has picked up a hamstring injury and will not play a part in Portugal’s fixtures during the March international break
Cristiano Ronaldo says he is “getting better every day” after picking up an injury before the World Cup. The icon won’t appear for Portugal in their upcoming international friendlies against Mexico and the United States this week.
The 41-year-old has been out of action for Al-Nassr since February, missing two league games and having to continue rehabilitation privately. As he continues to recover, Ronaldo has missed the penultimate selection before the World Cup this summer.
But the Portuguese icon isn’t letting this injury dampen his spirits. Ronaldo posted a couple of photos to his Instagram on Monday, showing his followers that the healing process is underway.
The first image shows the veteran star utilising a leg press machine to strengthen his incredible lower muscles as he breathes through it. The next snap shows him grinning as he works his chest, wearing a turquoise sports set and bare feet.

A third noted: “The [goat] doesn’t skip leg day,” while one said: “Get well soon GOAT.”
Portugal boss Roberto Martinez will be pleased to see his captain’s recovery process as he admits the injury isn’t one to be feared. He said: “We have players who are not ready. We have Ruben Dias, Cristiano Ronaldo and Nelson Semedo, players who are not medically fit.”
When asked if Ronaldo could miss the 2026 World Cup, Martinez added: “No, he’s not in danger. It’s a minor muscle injury. Everything Cristiano has done physically this season shows that he’s in great shape.”
Ronaldo has confirmed this summer’s tournament will be his final World Cup after playing at five for Portugal so far – with his first coming in 2006.
The 226-time capped Portugal international will aim to complete his international success – that includes two European Championships – and get the World Cup trophy into his cabinet for the first – and last – time.
