The Netherlands continued their strong run with a 2-1 win over Norway in an international friendly at the Johan Cruijff Arena.

The match served as preparation for the upcoming World Cup tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Norway struck first in the 24th minute through Andreas Schjelderup after a sharp solo effort.

The Dutch responded before the break.

Virgil van Dijk rose highest to head home an equaliser from a corner.

It was his 12th international goal.

The second half saw the Netherlands take control.

Cody Gakpo played a key role in the winning moment.

He won the ball in midfield, which led to Tijjani Reijnders scoring the decisive goal in the 51st minute.

Speaking after the game, Van Dijk said, “Overall, we played a good match against ⁠a good opponent,”

“I thought we were better in the second half, partly because they were a bit more tired.”

“Ultimately, we had enough chances to score more goals.”

“Defensively, we were also solid.”

“We won ⁠deservedly and now we move on.”

The Dutch are now unbeaten in 13 matches.

Notably, German media also rated Florian Wirtz highly after his recent display, showing how key attacking players are stepping up across different national teams.

The performance showed control, especially after the break, and gave fans confidence ahead of the tournament.

From a Liverpool perspective, this was an encouraging night.

Three Reds played key roles, and Dutch media took notice.

AD rated Van Dijk highly giving the defender a 7, saying, “What a powerful header for the 1-1 before the break.”

“Teun Koopmeiners’ corner was seized upon by the captain, goal number 12 in the Orange shirt.”

“A little too complacent just before half-time when Strand Larsen still managed to head in dangerously.”

They also highlighted Ryan Gravenberch, giving him a 7 rating and said, “The playmaker , a beacon of calm in midfield.”

“With a subtle backheel, he initiated one of the Netherlands’ best attacks before the break.”

“Always on his post defensively.”

Gakpo earned the highest praise and a 7.5 rating, “Very active in the opening phase with shots and in the role of assist provider, but the moment for the Liverpool winger came shortly after half-time when he surprised the sleeping Sørloth with an interception that set up the 2-1.”

Voetbal International added, “The finest rating, a 7.5, went to Cody Gakpo, who posed a great threat down the left flank.”
