Police in Derbyshire have arrested a man on suspicion of attempted murder after a car ploughed into several pedestrians in Derby city centre leaving multiple people injured

Derby-based TikTok star Mashtag Brady has spoken out after the tragic events in the city last night. Counter-terror police are helping with an investigation after a car ploughed into multiple pedestrians in Derby city centre with several people rushed to hospital.

Seven people were left with serious injuries after the “horrific” incident. Police say the collision involved a black Suzuki Swift and happened at around 9.30pm in the Friar Gate area of the city. One eye-witness said it was “absolute carnage” with numerous people laying in the road and on the pavement after it happened.

Influencer, Mashtag, 32, who is from Derby and known for his energetic mukbang-style videos – where an online host eats large quantities of food with online viewers – and fast food reviews, told followers he was shocked by the events and never thought he’d seen anything so distressing in his hometown.

Sporting a navy t.shirt and bushy beard, he said: “I’ve been all around the world but I always come back here [Derby]. It’s my home and part of me. I’m so proud to be from Derby. All my friends and family live here so for me it couldn’t be any better. So to hear some f****r has driven through a crowd of people and ran seven people over in Derby city centre on a night out, honest to god, it hurts my heart.”

Getting more riled up as filmed himself in his living room, Mashtag continued: “That’s us! That’s us! You see all these attacks in Manchester and London and Paris, but we feel like in Derby, we’re OK, we’re not going to have these problems, we’re not a big enough city and now that’s gone out of the window.”

“The country is already falling to bits. I don’t know what the answer is but it’s genuinely concerning and my heart goes out to all the families and victims.”

Casting doubt on the police saying the attack was “not an ongoing problem”, Mashtag concluded: “Well, guess what? It is [an ongoing problem]. Now I’m going to be concerned that some f****r is going to try and run me over people that I know.”

Exhaling loudly with his hands above his head, the foodie signed off: “Arggggh! How is this the world we’re living in? What do we pay our taxes for? To keep us safe!”

After the attack, a 36-year-old man in his 30s from India, but who has lived in the UK for several years, was found by police a short time later and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, causing serious injury, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving.
