Ashley Roberts is currently appearing on I’m A Celebrity…South Africa and bosses are thought to have reassured her that her supposed former romance with host Dec Donnelly would not be discussed on screen

Ashley Roberts was “reassured” that her former romance with Declan Donnelly would not be discussed on I’m A Celebrity…South Africa, according to reports. The Pussycat Dolls star, 44, is back on screens of the Ant and Dec-fronted ITV series, more than a decade after she competed on the main version of the show.

The singer was said to have struck up a romance with Dec, 50, after they met on the series with the pair briefly dating. Those behind-the-scenes on the spin-off series made it clear to Ashley that any mention of it would not make it to air this time round.

A source said: “As with any campmate, relevant stories are discussed in preliminary chats with the celeb and the team.

Speaking to The Sun, the source added: “Ashley would’ve been assured anything relating to her link with Dec will be totally off the table. And not alluded to in any jokes or references.”

Dec, who has now been married to manager Ali Astall since 2015, is thought to have fallen for Ashley during her initial stint in the Australian jungle in 2012. It’s previously been reported that Ashley charmed Dec with her near-constant talk about how much she was craving sex, and in 2013, the radio host gave a brief comment on their fling.

She said: “We’re trying to keep it out of the public eye. We’re just getting to know each other. We’re having fun, but I’m single. I love both those guys.” It was just months later that Dec publicly announced his relationship with Ali.

However, Ashley has not been shy when it comes to opening up about other personal matters to her campmates. Asked by Sinitta if she had any children, Ashley replied: “I don’t have any babies, no babies. It is just not top of the list. I think I have been so driven and travelling, I don’t feel a strong passion.”

Sinitta, who adopted Zac and Magdalena in 2007 then-husband, Andy Willner, replied: “I always say to people unless you really really want it…because it takes everything and it is your life.” Mother-of-one and former Gogglebox star Scarlett Moffatt then said: “And too many people become parents who actually shouldn’t be parents.”

Scarlett then added in the Bush telegraph “For me, being a mum has completely changed my whole life, and it’s something that I’ve wanted for so so long. But for other women, it isn’t.

“And I just think good for Ashley, same as good for me who wanted a child, good for Ashley, who doesn’t. We all just have to live our best lives, however that looks.”

Scarlett said to the group she tried for four years to have her child Jude, and they conceived shortly before heading to a fertility clinic. She was often asked if they would have a second child, but it “sometimes doesn’t work out that way”.
