Liverpool’s dramatic derby day win has set itself up perfectly for the final few games of the season, with Champions League qualification firmly within the Reds’ grasp.

The 2-1 win over Everton, courtesy of Virgil van Dijk’s last-minute winner, means Liverpool needs a maximum of nine points to secure a spot at Europe’s top table for next season, which will come as a huge relief ahead of what will be another big summer.

Although another spending spree like last year is unlikely, Arne Slot will have plenty to address in his squad during the transfer window, especially with the departure of some big names.

Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.

Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig)

Liverpool is “assessing” Yan Diomande among other options ahead of the summer, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce.

The RB Leipzig winger has been touted as a potential replacement for Mohamed Salah when the Egyptian departs at the end of the season, and it would appear that the 19-year-old is under consideration.

Leipzig is said to value Diomande at around £85 million ($115M), with Liverpool’s business looking set to be impacted by Hugo Ekitike’s injury, while missing out on Champions League qualification could also have an effect.

Liverpool.com says: Signing a player as young as Diomande to replace Salah will always feel like a bit of a gamble, but given the season he’s having in Germany, you just can’t ignore him at this point.

Diomande would be a hugely exciting signing, and hopefully one that would stick around for years to come. With Champions League qualification looking much more assured now, hopefully Liverpool can begin to step up its plans.

Curtis Jones (Liverpool)

Aston Villa is ready to step up its interest in Curtis Jones, with TeamTalk claiming that the midfielder is preparing to leave Liverpool this summer.

Jones has just over a year remaining on his contract at Anfield, but it’s suggested that talks over a new deal have stalled, and that interest is growing in him.

Villa is said to be positioning itself “strongly” in the race to sign him and is preparing a “concrete” move, with Newcastle and Tottenham also linked, while Inter Milan explored a move in January.

Liverpool.com says: It does look increasingly like Liverpool could do with bolstering the midfield a bit, but letting go of Jones would feel a little drastic. Of course, if he decides he wants to pursue an opportunity elsewhere, then it would make sense to try and get a fee while the club still can.

Still, Jones is a versatile option, and one that came in handy against Everton, so hopefully he can be convinced to extend his stay.
