Chilling footage shows the final moments of a frail 93-year-old man as he walked to his flat where he was brutally tortured by his ‘friend’.
Martin Glynn was subjected to a shocking 28 hour torture ordeal at the hands of Samuel Field, 40, on September 19, 2024. A court heard Mr Glynn passed away after being punched, kicked, strangled and having his head stamped on by the evil thug.
Harrowing footage from a hidden camera inside the flat showed Field continuing as though nothing had happened – while Mr Glynn’s feet can be seen as he lay motionless on the floor. Field waited 24 hours before calling 999 and police arrived at the flat in Desborough, Northants., to find Mr Glynn lying “‘unceremoniously dumped” in a shower tray.
He died in Kettering General Hospital on December 26, 2024 – but only after using his final words on his deathbed to name his killer. The pensioner was also able to tell detectives how he’d been blackmailed into handing over thousands of pounds to his supposed friend.
Field went on trial accused of murder and was found guilty by a jury of seven men and five women after less than four hours of deliberation on Wednesday May 6. He will be sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on May 29.
Following the verdicts, Northamptonshire Police released footage showing Mr Glynn slowly walking to his death after he had caught the bus home from Northampton to Desborough.
In a 999 call also released by the force Field reveals that Mr Glynn is injured in his flat and says he’s “ever so sorry” before telling officers who arrive to arrest him “I know what I have done”.
When asked what the level of injuries are, Field says he was “lying for ten hours” and he was “trying to get the truth out of him”.
The court heard Field, who had taken cannabis, was fuelled by a conspiracy theory he had totally imagined in which his best friend had betrayed him to an unknown “Irishman”. When he didn’t get the confession he wanted, he subjected Mr Glynn to the “savage and senseless” assault, which left him suffering bleeds to his brain, broken bones in his neck severe bruising and swelling to his face and body.
Sadly, Mr Glynn never recovered from the serious injuries he sustained in the attack and three months later on Boxing Day he died.
Speaking after the verdict, Detective Sergeant Megan Scotney, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “Samuel Field described Mr Glynn as his best friend of almost two decades. However, instead of looking out for Mr Glynn, Field exploited their friendship and tortured the 93-year-old over 10-hours, inflicting the most horrific injuries on a vulnerable man, which ultimately cost him his life.
“Mr Glynn lived independently and through his loyalty to Field, travelled more than two hours from his home in Northampton to Desborough at least once, sometimes twice a week to visit him.
“Only Field knows why he attacked Mr Glynn that day, but I am pleased the jury has seen him for what he truly is – a dangerous, violent man. Nothing can bring Mr Glynn back, but I very much hope this guilty verdict offers his loved ones some comfort. Our thoughts remain with them all in their grief.”
