Comedian and actor Richard Ayoade’s next TV role has been confirmed just days after he was reportedly involved in a car crash in East Dulwich

The crash allegedly left two people injured.

The IT Crowd and Last One Laughing’s Richard Ayoade has joined the stellar cast of a beloved murder mystery series along with several other British icons.

Deadline’s report comes just hours after witnesses claimed that Ayoade was involved in a car crash that allegedly hospitalised two people.

The actor, comedian and presenter is just one of several huge names joining the cast of Only Murders in the Building’s sixth season, which will be set in London.

Local UK talent being enlisted for the latest instalment of Disney+’s hit murder mystery drama, which stars Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, also includes Doctor Who stars David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker, as well as Bridgerton icon Nicola Coughlan.

Further cast members announced today include Jim Broadbent (Paddington), Adrian Lukis (The Outlaws) and Kathryn Hunter (Poor Things).

Previously announced cast includes Coughlan’s Bridgerton co-star Simone Ashley, Absolutely Fabulous legend Jennifer Saunders, Bad Sisters’ Sharon Horgan, and The Office star Martin Freeman.

Other recurring stars include Sean Teale, Amar Chadha-Patel, Rhea Norwood, Matthew Beard, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Jamie Demetriou, Anjana Vasan, Jane Horrocks, Derek Jacobi and Lesley Nicol.

Reach PLC has approached Disney+ for confirmation.

Production is currently underway in the UK, with no release date for the sixth season announced just yet.

Ayoade’s casting arrives on the same day that reports emerged in The Sun that he was a victim of a car crash on Saturday, 13th June in southeast London.

The 49-year-old actor was driving his car in East Dulwich when a Renault was seen “speeding” by eyewitnesses.

People at the scene claimed a woman had been hit by the Renault before the driver smashed into Ayoade’s car, a Mercedes SUV, causing damage to the front right section.

The actor was reportedly seen holding his neck when he got out of his car at a roundabout and speaking to police.

The London Ambulance Service confirmed in a statement: “We treated two women at the scene before taking them to a major trauma centre.”

Only Murders in the Building is available to stream on Disney+.
