Daveigh Chase shared a haunting final photo via Instagram nearly a decade before her tragic death.
She was pictured in a black and white snapshot shared on November 19, 2017, standing next to a unicorn balloon and enjoying a sunny day.
The “Ring” actress wore a black sheer top and black distressed jeans while posing near a sidewalk sign. She accessorized with a pair of simple sunglasses and a long necklace.
“Unicorns DO exist 😻” Chase captioned the post.
On Wednesday, after news of the star’s death emerged, fans flooded the comments section with tributes for the “Lilo & Stitch” voice actress.
“RIP and thank you,” one person wrote, while another remarked, “Rest peacefully in Paradise 🤍🪽”
A third person chimed in, “Say it ain’t so😭💔” while a fourth added, “RIP beautiful girl, you deserved so much better, thank you for the nostalgia, your special words & voice, that molded these characters to be something so memorable in our lives. You left an imprint on all our hearts, God bless you, soar with the angels 💔🕊️”
Still, others simply shared images and GIFs from her best-known movie roles.
Chase rose to fame for her voice work as lead character Lilo in Disney’s animated “Lilo & Stitch” in 2002, and as the voice of Chihiro in the English version of Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning animated fantasy “Spirited Away” in 2001.
In 2002, she spooked audiences as vengeful child-spirit Samara Morgan in the iconic horror movie “The Ring.” She also notably appeared in “Donnie Darko” in 2001.
On Wednesday, news broke that the actress had died on Tuesday at the age of 35 following a case of meningitis and a blood infection leading to sepsis, according to her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.
TMZ reported that Chase had been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier in June for malnutrition.
Hernandez set up a GoFundMe prior to her death, calling Chase “a light in [his] life” and noting that “behind the scenes, she’s faced more than her share of hardship.”
“After a difficult childhood and a painful falling out with her family, Daveigh was bullied and struggled to find safety and happiness in downtown LA,” he wrote via the campaign page.
“When we met, I promised to protect her and give her the love and comfort she deserved. Together, we found moments of happiness and hope.”
Hernandez went on to write that Chase was diagnosed with several “serious” blood infections and meningitis.
“Her condition has become critical, and the doctors have told me she may not have much time left,” he explained. “All she ever wanted was a place where we could live together, feel safe, and be happy. Now, more than ever, I want to give her that sense of home and peace in her final days.”
