Prince Harry put on a brave face while giving a speech in London on Tuesday, moments after learning about his court defeat.
The Duke of Sussex gave a welcome address at the 14th Invictus Games Foundation Conversation: From Policy to Practice conference at Chatham House.
The 41-year-old took the stage moments after news broke that a UK High Court judge ruled against him in his case against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL).
Harry, nonetheless, appeared in good spirits during his subsequent speech.
After thanking the charity’s “supporters, partners and sponsors,” he quipped, “It is one of the few rooms … in the U.K. that has air conditioning, so I can understand why every seat is full.
“I get it,” the former military pilot continued with a smile as the room erupted into laughter.
Harry kept his composure while speaking for six minutes about the Invictus Games, a foundation that holds an international and multi-sport event for wounded, inured and sick military service personnel.
He concluded by highlighting the “one belief” at the organization’s core: “The unconquered human spirit exists in every nation and our shared responsibility is to create the conditions in which it can flourish.”
The prince has been in his native country since Monday as part of a trip counting down to the 2027 Invictus Games Birmingham.
He kicked off his journey across the pond with an appearance at the “Shoot the People” documentary premiere Monday evening.
A decision was reached in the high-profile lawsuit, which he, Elton John, Elizabeth Hurley and four other defendants filed in 2022, the following morning.
All claims in the case were dismissed.
A hearing has been scheduled for July 29 and 30 regarding any disputes.
This decision marked the end of Harry’s years-long media battle with multiple British press outlets — and he has yet to release a statement on the ruling.
Harry, notably, is in England solo while wife Meghan Markle and their two kids — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — remain at home in Montecito, California.
Although the retired royal was initially planning to travel with his family, he did an about-face after being denied taxpayer-funded security.
