The footballer changed his plea to guilty at Croydon Magistrates’ Court as the court heard that his ex partner has been left ‘feeling emotionally drained and upset’

Former Liverpool player Jordon Ibe pulled a braid out of his ex-girlfriend’s head during an argument, a court heard.

Ibe, 30, appeared in court in relation to an assault outside his former girlfriend Amie Mayson’s home in Lambeth, south London.

Croydon Magistrates’ Court heard Ibe and Ms Mayson were arguing on December 14 when Ms Mayson demanded that Ibe repaid her money she claimed he owed her.

Ibe held a bag containing drinks, snacks and flowers, but when Ms Mayson threw muffins on the floor and called Ibe a “druggy”, he grabbed her by her hair.

Ibe made 41 appearances for Liverpool before spells at AFC Bournemouth, Derby County and Birmingham City.

The court was told that he pulled a braid from Ms Mayson’s head leaving her with a bald patch, reports the Echo.

A victim statement from February, read to the court on Tuesday, July 14 said that Ms Mayson was deeply affected by the attack, impacting her confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.

It read: “Looking in the mirror is very distressing for me, the injury is a constant reminder of what happened and often leaves me feeling emotionally drained and upset.”

In March, Ibe denied the charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. However, on Tuesday he changed his plea to guilty.

Ibe donned a black jacket and trousers in the dock and spoke to confirm his personal details.

He got his postcode wrong and told the court: “Sorry, I’m a bit nervous.”

District Judge Polly Gledhill told the court: “We are in community order territory and I am going to ask for a pre-sentence report. I am not ruling anything out.”

Gledhill urged Ibe to be “as honest and open” with probation as possible ahead of his sentencing.

The footballer was bailed with conditions not to contact Ms Mayson or to go to her address.
