He\u2019s my manager now. You know, he grew up with it. He would listen to our records, and he never got the humor until he got old enough, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tommy said he and Marin, 79, \u201chadn\u2019t seen each other for years\u201d but agreed to meet. Despite getting into a \u201ctypical argument\u201d during the meeting, the half-Chinese Canada native insisted he was \u201creally happy\u201d to see his old pal, so he \u201csent him an email\u201d about how \u201cnice\u201d it was to catch up even though they were no longer working together.<\/p>\n<p>According to Tommy, Paris, 51, \u201cintercepted\u201d the email and rewrote it to say something along the lines of, \u201c\u2018I\u2019m really looking forward to getting back to the act.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd next thing you know, Paris said, \u2018You got a rehearsal with Cheech coming up!&#8217;\u201d Tommy recalled, adding that they\u2019ve \u201cbeen together ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>According to Tommy, Paris (seen here in 2013) \u201cintercepted\u201d an email he had written to Marin and rewrote it to say he was \u201creally looking forward to getting back to the act.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cYou got a rehearsal with Cheech coming up!\u201d Tommy (pictured above with Marin in 2010) recalled Paris telling him, adding that they\u2019ve \u201cbeen together ever since.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Kevin Winter<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Asked whether he knew about the forged email, Marin \u2014 perhaps jokingly \u2014 replied, \u201cI\u2019m just finding out about it right now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2003, during their separation, Tommy found himself in legal trouble for financing and promoting Paris\u2019 hand-blown glass pipe and bong company. The father of six ended up agreeing to plead guilty to one count of\u00a0conspiracy\u00a0to distribute drug paraphernalia in exchange for non-prosecution of Paris and Tommy\u2019s longtime wife, Shelby Chong.<\/p>\n<p>While 54 of the 55 individuals <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/archive\/opa\/pr\/2003\/February\/03_crm_106.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">charged as part of the Operation Pipe Dreams investigation<\/a> got away with fines and home detention, Tommy was sentenced to nine months in federal prison (followed by a year of probation), a $20,000 fine and forfeiture of more than $100,000 in assets.<\/p>\n<p>During our chat, Tommy and Marin agreed that the latter visited the former one time while he was behind bars at California\u2019s Taft Correctional Institution (in the same cell as <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2014\/01\/22\/a-look-at-the-office-of-the-real-wolf-of-wall-street\/\">\u201cWolf of Wall Street\u201d fraudster Jordan Belfort<\/a>), but their recollections of the visit differed quite a bit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cI\u2019m just finding out about it right now,\u201d Marin \u2014 perhaps jokingly \u2014 replied when we asked whether he knew about the forged email. <span class=\"credit\">Page Six<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Marin and Tommy, best known for pioneering \u201cstoner comedy,\u201d have achieved commercial and cultural success since the \u201970s. <span class=\"credit\">Penske Media via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tommy claimed that the <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2018\/06\/28\/cheech-marins-chicano-art-museum-gets-9-7m-from-california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art &amp; Culture founder<\/a> showed up with screenwriter Larry Charles to discuss a movie about \u201ctwo thumbs,\u201d but Marin insisted he arrived solo.<\/p>\n<p>Since the \u201970s, Marin and Tommy \u2014 best known for pioneering \u201cstoner comedy\u201d \u2014 have achieved commercial and cultural success with their\u00a0stand-up\u00a0routines, studio recordings, feature films and namesake cannabis company.<\/p>\n<p>Most recently, the pair launched a high-potency, hemp-derived THC beverage called <a href=\"https:\/\/cheechandchong.com\/pages\/the-judges-stash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Judge\u2019s Stash<\/a>, whose bottle transforms into a bong after its empty.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how they came up with the concept, Marin responded, \u201cHow did we <em>not<\/em> come up with this concept?\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Via their namesake cannabis company, the entertainers recently launched a high-potency, hemp-derived THC beverage whose bottle transforms into a bong after it\u2019s empty.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cHow did we not come up with this concept?\u201d Marin responded when asked how they came up with the concept. <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Cheech and Chong)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for how Tommy feels about making money off a product that once landed him in the slammer, he explained proudly, \u201cI\u2019ve always maintained that we were right.\u00a0I\u2019ve been smoking since I was 15, and look at me now! I\u2019m almost 90, and I can still get on my iPad without help. I learned how to turn it on myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Grammy winners <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2020\/12\/17\/tommy-chong-wants-a-drill-press-to-make-marijuana-pipes\/\">admittedly smoke marijuana every day<\/a>, and they credit the drug \u2014 which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsl.org\/health\/state-medical-cannabis-laws\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">is currently legal for recreational use in 24 states and medical use in 40 states<\/a> \u2014 with giving them energy, fueling their creativity and keeping them happy.<\/p>\n<p>For Tommy \u2014 who still rolls his own joints \u2014 it also helped him quit cigarettes and has increased his appetite, which often decreases with age.<\/p>\n<p>He told us he prioritizes lifting weights at luxury gym Equinox two to three times a week, where \u201cpretty instructors\u201d and \u201cguys that grew up with [him]\u201d flock to him.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The two (seen here in 2018) admittedly smoke marijuana every day, and they credit the drug with giving them energy, fueling their creativity and keeping them happy. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for IMDb<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Marin (pictured above in 2011) told us he\u2019d like to smoke a blunt with President Trump, quipping, \u201cWe\u2019ll get him on the program.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Asked about their \u201cdream blunt rotation,\u201d Marin \u2014 who is married to Natasha Rubin and has three children from previous marriages \u2014 replied with a chuckle, \u201c[President] Donald Trump. We\u2019ll get him on the program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Tommy reminisced on having smoked \u201cin the presence of and with every Beatle except Paul [McCartney],\u201d but he\u2019s determined to \u201cget together\u201d and \u201cdo a historical pot-smoking thing\u201d with the 83-year-old musician sometime soon.<\/p>\n<p>Interestingly, McCartney \u2014 who \u201cliked to get high,\u201d according to Tommy \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.apoplife.nl\/subarticle\/paul-mccartney-in-japan-1980-drugs-jail-deportation\/\">was arrested for marijuana possession<\/a> at Japan\u2019s Narita International Airport in 1980.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf all the Beatles, Paul was the main pothead,\u201d Tommy claimed before asking Marin directly, \u201cDid you know that Yoko [Ono] got Paul arrested in Japan?
