&#8216;Showgirl&#8217; lawsuit in fiery response"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/login9ja.com\/global\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/05\/127221399.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Taylor Swift\u2019s lawyers aggressively hit back at a former Last Vegas showgirl who\u2019s suing the pop star for trademark infringement.<\/p>\n<p>Maren Flagg sued Swift in March, claiming the singer\u2019s latest album, \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl,\u201d infringes upon her 2015 trademark of the phrase \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl,\u201d which Flagg has used to build up her own brand.<\/p>\n<p>Flagg \u2014 who goes by Maren Wade when she performs \u2014 is asking for Swift to be immediately blocked from selling related merchandise as they battle in court.<\/p>\n<p>Swift\u2019s lawyers blasted Flagg and her lawsuit in a brief filed Wednesday.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Taylor Swift\u2019s lawyers have hit back at Maren Flagg, a former Las Vegas showgirl who\u2019s suing Swift for trademark infringement due to the pop star\u2019s latest album being called \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">taylorswift Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Flagg, shown here, performs as Maren Wade and trademarked the phrase \u201cConfessions of a Showgirl\u201d in 2015. <span class=\"credit\">Maren Wade\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThis motion, just like Maren Flagg\u2019s lawsuit, should never have been filed,\u201d her lawyers stated in the filing <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/music\/news\/taylor-swift-attorneys-fire-back-trademark-lawsuit-showgirl-1236741122\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obtained by Variety.<\/a> \u201cIt is simply Ms. Flagg\u2019s latest attempt to use Taylor Swift\u2019s name and intellectual property to prop up her brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her lawyers also called Flagg comparing her cabaret show to Swift\u2019s album \u201cabsurd.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Flagg[ performs, if at all, in small intimate venues, such as a: \u201955+ active community,\u2019 \u201955+ golf resort\u2019; \u2018RV &amp; Golf Resort\u2019; \u201990 seat cabaret-style venue\u2019 that offers dinner; hotel; and private supper club,\u201d they state. \u201cHer website lists no upcoming performances.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Flagg is asking that Swift be banned immediately from selling merchandise associated with the phrase. <span class=\"credit\">Maren Wade\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Swift\u2019s lawyers dragged Flagg in a brief Wednesday, stating that the lawsuit was \u201cabsurd\u201d and should never have been filed. <span class=\"credit\">Taylor Swift<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Swift\u2019s legal team also accused Flagg of at first attempting to associate herself with \u201cThe Life of a Showgirl\u201d before suing her months later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrior to the album announcement, plaintiff had never used \u2018the life of a showgirl\u2019 in her social media promotion,\u201d the brief states. \u201cFollowing the announcement, plaintiff used the phrase or posted generally about Ms. Swift or the album over 40 times on her branded Instagram and TikTok accounts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/pro\/taylor-swift-fights-life-of-a-showgirl-trademark-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a statement to Billboard<\/a>, Flagg\u2019s attorney, Jaymie Parkkinen, said he and his client still plan to move forward with the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Swift\u2019s lawyers stated that there was no way anyone would confuse Swift\u2019s album with Flagg\u2019s cabaret performances to her +55 older crowd. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>They also accused Flagg of trying to at first associate herself with Swift\u2019s new album when it first came out. <span class=\"credit\">Taylor Swift<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe read it. Defendants assert First Amendment protection for napkins and hairbrushes,\u201d the statement reads. \u201cWe look forward to filing our response next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a statement to CBS News about the lawsuit in March, Parkkinen said Flagg was never contacted about Swift using the \u201cLife of a Showgirl\u201d name \u2014 despite Swift allegedly trying to trademark the phrase with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but getting denied because it was too similar to Flagg\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>He said of his client, \u201cShe registered it. She earned it. We have great respect for Swift\u2019s talent and success, but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at all levels can protect what they\u2019ve built.
