Ministers are giving courts the authority to issue <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/driving-ban\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">penalty points<\/a> to those convicted of illegally dumping waste &#8211; meaning repeat offenders could eventually lose their licences entirely.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Under the new regulations, brought in via the Policing and Crime Act, courts will be able to impose between three and nine penalty points for fly-tipping convictions. Our message is simple: if you dump waste illegally, you will face the consequences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Fly-tippers currently face a range of punishments, including substantial fines, community sentences and even jail time. However, ministers argue that adding penalty points gives courts a powerful new deterrent by limiting offenders&#8217; freedom to get behind the wheel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The clampdown doesn&#8217;t stop there.
