Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Katherine was reportedly found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound\u00a0at her Los Angeles home.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Katherine had two brothers, Oliver (pictured here on the right with her and their dad at Comedy Central\u2019s \u201cNight Of Too Many Stars,\u201d a benefit for Autism Education, in New York City in October 2006), and Henry. <span class=\"credit\">Gamma-Rapho via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>In a statement confirming Katherine\u2019s death, Short\u2019s rep told Page Six that the social worker was \u201cbeloved by all.\u201d She and her dad are pictured here in a photo taken in Los Angeles in 1989. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to TMZ, law enforcement <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/27\/celebrity-news\/martin-shorts-daughter-katherine-vanished-24-hours-before-death-left-suicide-note\/\">found a suicide note<\/a>, though it\u2019s unclear what was written.<\/p>\n<p>Short shared Katherine, along with <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/celebrity-news\/martin-short-family\/\">sons Oliver Patrick, 39, and Henry Hayter, 36,<\/a> with his Dolman.<\/p>\n<p>The social worker<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/24\/celebrity-news\/martin-shorts-daughter-katherine-had-service-dog-to-assist-with-mental-illness\/\"> had a service dog<\/a> named after singer Joni Mitchell to assist with \u201cmental illness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Her neighbors <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/24\/celebrity-news\/martin-shorts-daughter-katherines-neighbors-react-to-her-death-at-42\/\">described her as friendly<\/a>, though noted she kept mostly to herself.<\/p>\n<p>Short is no stranger to <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/24\/celebrity-news\/how-martin-short-overcame-years-of-family-tragedy\/\">experiencing family tragedy<\/a>. His older brother David died in a car accident when he was 12 years old, and he later lost his mother to cancer when he was 17 years old.
