I don\u2019t care, I\u2019m not, like, running for office. I don\u2019t need a majority vote.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Kargman has turned her gimlet eye on her neighborhood once again with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FcIIcc7oNXA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the new movie \u201cInfluenced,\u201d<\/a> which she co-wrote and stars in as an influencer named Dzanielle, who is on a quest to crack one million followers on Instagram while navigating \u201cblack card-swiping, Ozempic s\u2013tting, workout-addicted Upper East Siders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c<a data-aps-asc-tag=\"pagesix-20\" data-aps-asin=\"0525950982\" data-wrapped-template=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url\" href=\"https:\/\/r.pagesixlink.com?btn_ref=org-282f0dd399864b44&amp;btn_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FEx-Mrs-Hedgefund-Jill-Kargman%2Fdp%2F0525950982%3Ftag%3Dpagesix-20%26asc_refurl%3Dhttps%3A%2F%2Fpagesix.com%2F2026%2F05%2F11%2Fentertainment%2Fpeople-love-seeing-that-the-rich-can-be-miserable-jill-kargman%2F%26asc_source%3Dweb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" data-nyp-affiliate=\"true\">Ex-Mrs. Hedgefund<\/a>\u201d novelist, 51, comes by her knowledge of the one percent honestly.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cMy stuff has always pissed some people off. I don\u2019t need a majority vote,\u201d Kargman said, dismissing any concerns about angering her Upper East Side neighbors with her satire. <span class=\"credit\">Emmy Park for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her late father, Arie L. Kopelman, was the former president of Chanel; her mother, Coco, is a socialite and American and School of American Ballet board member. Karl Lagerfeld himself sketched the design of her wedding gown. She attended Spence School, whose alumni include Georgina Bloomberg and Kargman\u2019s good pal Gwyneth Paltrow, who makes a cameo in \u201cInfluenced.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Kargman\u2019s husband, Harry, is the CEO of the advertising firm Kargo Global, Inc., and their three children, Sadie, Ivy and Fletch, all attended private schools.<\/p>\n<p>She admits that she and Harry almost didn\u2019t get together because, \u201cOn our second date, [he] said, \u2018I don\u2019t know if I could ever raise kids in New York.\u2019 And I just was like, \u2018Check, please. This date\u2019s over because I\u2019m never leaving, because I will wither on the vine and die.\u2019 Because I don\u2019t know how to drive, and I can\u2019t live anywhere else. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>In her new movie, \u201cInfluenced,\u201d Kargman spoofs life on the Upper East Side. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Menemsha Entertainment\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d rather, you know, die of stress than die of boredom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kargman still lives on the UES but, having grown up there and seen what it can do to people \u2014\u00a0an echo chamber she satirized, complete with faux fundraisers for NACHO (New Yorkers Against ChildHood Obesity), in her 2015-2017 Bravo sitcom \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2016\/07\/09\/odd-mom-out-star-dishes-on-gross-lifestyles-of-the-upper-east-side\/\">Odd Mom Out<\/a>\u201d \u2014 she was determined her kids would know there\u2019s life beyond the East River.<\/p>\n<p>On the one hand, that has meant \u201cwe volunteer a lot as a family at a food pantry in Queens, and we are very into raising the kids with values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s also meant explaining to her brood why she didn\u2019t wear shoes with red bottoms \u2014\u00a0the subtle giveaway of pricey Louboutins \u2014 unlike the other mothers at school, and why the family wasn\u2019t \u201clame\u201d just because they didn\u2019t have a home in the Hamptons. You just have to keep teaching it. Cohen got the premise right away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLike Larry David of the Upper East Side?\u201d Cohen asked \u2014\u00a0to which Kargman replied, \u201cExactly!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, there are scenes in \u201cInfluenced\u201d that feel like spiritual cousins to \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm.\u201d Before arriving in theaters, the movie premiered at the Miami Jewish Film Festival, and Kargman highlights her Judaism in the film \u2014\u00a0with her character\u2019s twins preparing for their bar and bat mitzvahs \u2014\u00a0just as she has in all her work.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>When Kargman developed her show, \u201cOdd Mom Out,\u201d with Bravo, Any Cohen compared her character to the \u201cLarry David of the Upper East Side.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Emmy Park for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Kargman and husband Harry share daughters Sadie and Ivy and son Fletch. <span class=\"credit\">jillkargman\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In real life, she\u2019s outspoken about her concerns for the city\u2019s Jewish population.<\/p>\n<p>After Zohran Mamdani won the Democratic mayoral primary in New York City, Kargman posted on social media, \u201cI feel like last night\u2019s NYC election result is like a spiritual Kristallnacht. It proved Jew hatred is now OK.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She told The Post, \u201cIt\u2019s been so heavy for all of us since October 7th, and just really dark with all the hatred.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cInfluenced\u201d is in theaters now. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Menemsha Entertainment\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>But, she said of her movie, \u201cit\u2019s good to have Jewish joy out there and have levity and have something light \u2026 it\u2019s bubblegum. It\u2019s meant to be light and fun, and we deserve it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In it, Kargman sports a thick Long Island accent, even thicker blonde tresses and va-va-voom cleavage, which resulted in the actress being cat-called \u2014\u00a0something she says she\u2019s never experienced as a dark brunette.<\/p>\n<p>Normally, \u201cno one hits on me. I\u2019m like a middle-aged vampire,\u201d Kargman said. \u201cI dress like George Washington. My mom says I dress like a Sicilian widow. I always have Edwardian collars.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Matt Damon has a phone-screen cameo in \u201cInfluenced.\u201d<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Gwyneth Paltrow \u2014\u00a0who attended the Spence School, as did Kargman \u2014 also appears.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Her wig was made and styled by \u201cSaturday Night \u201d makeup-and-hair department vets, and Kargman says it was so incredibly realistic that a friend of 40 years didn\u2019t recognize her when they bumped into each other on the street.<\/p>\n<p>While she didn\u2019t attend the Met Gala this year, in 2024 she upcycled her Chanel wedding dress for the event. And despite her high-fashion upbringing and life as a regular at society events, Kargman insists that, unlike her character, she has never cared how she looked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t feel pressure because I also feel lucky that I\u2019m from here. So New York doesn\u2019t intimidate me. Whereas, I feel like, if you\u2019re from some rectangular red state in the middle, you might have this notion of, like, everyone\u2019s Carrie Bradshaw walking down the street looking perfect.
