In 2022, she worked with Nicola Peltz on procuring the Valentino wedding gown that\u2019s since <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/21\/style\/nicola-peltzs-vogue-wedding-interview-conflicts-with-claim-victoria-backed-out-of-designing-dress-at-eleventh-hour\/\">turned into a public debacle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After years of speculation, Fremar said <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/style\/anne-hathaway-and-meryl-streeps-devil-wears-prada-2-press-tour-looks\/\">the sequel\u2019s rollout<\/a> felt like the right moment to speak up. \u201cEveryone really enjoyed the movie. Anna [Wintour]\u2019s clearly embracing it,\u201d Fremar <a href=\"https:\/\/play.prx.org\/listen?ge=prx_5736_21894a49-694c-4556-bfbe-0f2f7ba53c40&amp;uf=https%3A%2F%2Fpublicfeeds.net%2Ff%2F5736%2Fthe-run-through\">said on Vogue\u2019s \u201cThe Run-Through\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cAnd so why not? She hired a young Cornell graduate named Lauren Weisberger to fill the junior seat \u2014 and the two shared a desk for eight months.<\/p>\n<p>Weisberger went on to write the 2003 book based on her time in Wintour\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI definitely told her a million girls would kill for the job,\u201d Fremar told host <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/09\/01\/style\/anna-wintour-taps-chloe-malle-as-the-new-editor-of-american-vogue-report\/\">Chloe Malle<\/a>. \u201cThat was definitely my line, because I actually really believed that, and I knew that she didn\u2019t necessarily want to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She described Weisberger (the real-life Andy Sachs) as disengaged and uninterested in fashion, often treating the work as beneath her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI probably was not very nice, and I probably was high-strung because I felt like I was having to do her job as well,\u201d the stylist recalled.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Fremar worked as Anna Wintour\u2019s first assistant at Vogue in 1999, and hired author Lauren Weisberger in the junior role. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for InStyle<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The stylist confirmed she said \u201ca million girls would kill for this job\u201d \u2014 one of the film\u2019s most quoted lines. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Walt Disney Co.\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Fremar didn\u2019t learn about the novel until after she\u2019d left Wintour\u2019s office. She was working at Prada, of all places, when her former boss handed her an early manuscript.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was actually quite mean, the galley,\u201d Fremar said. \u201cI think what got put into the world is a much lighter, nicer version of what she actually wrote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reading it \u201cfelt like a betrayal.\u201d The two haven\u2019t spoken since Weisberger left Vogue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it would be very awkward,\u201d Fremar said of the prospect of a reunion. \u201cI don\u2019t hold a grudge towards her, but\u2026 there\u2019s nothing to be said.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fremar also debunked a few of the story\u2019s most beloved plot points. The Paris trip? \u201cAnna did not travel with her assistants. That is fiction.\u201d Weisberger\u2019s character\u2019s transformation into a fashion darling? \u201cI did not witness that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The stylist called the original galley \u201cactually quite mean\u201d and said editors softened it significantly before publication. <span class=\"credit\">The Academy via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Reading the book \u201cfelt like a betrayal,\u201d Fremar said.
