And the stuff that I do believe, I don\u2019t want to force it down somebody else\u2019s throat because I\u2019m not an expert on that.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Billy Bob Thornton said he has never been interested in using his celebrity status to push his political or personal beliefs on others. <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thornton joked that staying quiet about his opinions may be exactly why he\u2019s not as much of an awards show fixture as he was earlier in his career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not really big on like at awards shows all of a sudden you start talking about saving the badgers and stuff,\u201d the \u201cFriday Night Lights\u201d actor said.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cLike Ricky Gervais said, you know, it\u2019s like get your little award and f\u2013k off, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It is not the first time Thornton has sounded off on the subject.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/09\/entertainment\/billy-bob-thornton-calls-out-celebrities-for-bringing-politics-to-hollywood-award-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Joe Rogan Experience<\/a>\u201d in November, he revealed he has been skipping award shows over the years after winning at \u201cplenty of them\u201d in the past.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re gonna go over here and, you know, have some dry chicken breast and green beans, you know, and we\u2019ll listen to people get up there and pontificate about how awesome they are,\u201d he told Rogan.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Thornton attends a premiere for the series \u201cLandman\u201d in Los Angeles, California, on April 16, 2026.  <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThose are the ones that get me. It\u2019s like, how about if you\u2019re going to get one of these things and you truly are honored by it, well, you honor the people who gave it to you. And don\u2019t go up there and talk about saving, you know, the Badgers in Wisconsin or something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thornton also went to bat for \u201cLandman\u201d creator Taylor Sheridan, accusing award shows of repeatedly snubbing the series out of political bias.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think a lot of it\u2019s political. I really do,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/20\/entertainment\/billy-bob-thornton-on-taylor-sheridan-snubbed-by-awards-shows-due-to-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> he told Variety in January<\/a>. \u201cI think some people assume Taylor is some sort of right-wing guy or something, and he\u2019s really not.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Thornton joked that staying quiet about his opinions may be exactly why he\u2019s not as much of an awards show fixture as he was earlier in his career. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for Stagecoach<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Thornton, who stars in \u201cLandman\u201d as oil executive Tommy Norris, explained that awards voters may have the wrong idea about the show\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven with this show being about the oil business, he just shows you what it\u2019s like.
