That hit me pretty good, \u2019cause, you know, it was just too soon,\u201d the actor<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegentlemansjournal.com\/article\/macaulay-culkin-cleans-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> told Gentleman\u2019s Journal<\/a> in a recent interview. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I felt that we had unfinished business,\u201d he continued. \u201cI definitely feel like I had unfinished business with her, you know?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Culkin, now 45, noted that he \u201cfelt like I owed her a favor \u2014 and I don\u2019t like having an outstanding debt.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Macaulay Culkin, seen above in 2025, said he had \u201cunfinished business\u201d with Catherine O\u2019Hara in a new interview.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for Maximum Effort and Mills Entertainment<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Culkin said he felt he owed the late actress (seen above in May 2025) a \u201cdebt.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">Variety via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>O\u2019Hara \u2014 who played Culkin\u2019s onscreen mother, Kate McAllister, opposite his mischievous Kevin McAllister in \u201cHome Alone\u201d (1990) and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/05\/20\/entertainment\/home-alone-actor-reveals-fight-to-quintuple-salary-for-sequel\/\">\u201cHome Alone 2\u201d<\/a> (1992) \u2014  died on Jan. 30 at her home in Los Angeles\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/30\/celebrity-news\/catherine-ohara-suffered-from-brief-illness-before-death\/\">following a brief illness<\/a>. She was 71.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Culkin took to social media <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/30\/celebrity-news\/macaulay-culkin-mourns-the-loss-of-home-alone-mom-catherine-ohara-i-thought-we-had-time\/\">to mourn her<\/a> with an emotional tribute. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMama. I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I love you. I\u2019ll see you later.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Hara\u2019s was notably preceded in death by her onscreen husband \u2014  Culkin\u2019s onscreen dad \u2014  played by John Heard, who <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2017\/07\/22\/john-heard-dead-at-72\/\">died in 2017 at age 71<\/a> following a sudden <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2017\/08\/15\/heart-attack-killed-home-alone-star-john-heard\/\">heart attack<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>During Culkin\u2019s Walk of Fame induction, the late \u201cBeetlejuice\u201d actress returned the former child star\u2019s affection, saying that the reason audiences \u201call over the world can\u2019t let a year go by without watching and loving \u2018Home Alone\u2019 together [is] because of Macaulay Culkin.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>O\u2019Hara gushed over the former child actor at his Hollywood Walk of Fame induction in 2023 (as pictured above).  <span class=\"credit\">Variety via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cI\u2019m so proud of you,\u201d she said during her speech.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYes, yes, he had a most excellent script and a wonderful director, but it is Macaulay\u2019s perfect performance as Kevin McCallister that gave us that little everyboy on an extraordinary adventure,\u201d she gushed at the time. <\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cMacaulay, your sense of humor, it\u2019s a sign of intelligence in a child, and a key to surviving life at any age. And you have, from what I see, you have brought that sense of sweet, yet twisted, yet totally relatable sense of humor to everything that you have chosen to do since \u2018Home Alone.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Hara quipped at the ceremony, \u201cthank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy\u00a0occasion.
