Bulger went on to be convicted of 11 murders and a sweep of other charges, such as racketeering, drug dealing, firearms possession, money laundering and extortion, being <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"murdered in prisonLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" crime thriller Black Mass, while Jack Nicholson\u2019s character in the film The Departed is said to be loosely based on Bulger.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">When he was jailed, US courts made an order to forfeit more than $25million (\u00a318million) from his accounts, judging them to be the proceeds of racketeering, with $19milllion (\u00a314 million) awarded to families of his victims.<\/p>\n<div data-testid=\"image-group\"><button type=\"button\" accounts in the <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/uk-news\/\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">United Kingdom<\/a> and discovered that he had opened two accounts in the UK in the early 1990s &#8211; one in his own name, and another using an alias.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">A &#8216;freezing order&#8217; executed by the NCA last year has now seen \u00a353,041 handed over to US authorities, which be used to further compensate victims&#8217; relatives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The NCA&#8217;s Rob Burgess, Head of Investigations for Asset Denial, said: &#8220;This is a great example of the NCA and international partners working together to do everything possible to ensure full justice is served.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;Bulger brought
