I don\u2019t like explosions and guns. I don\u2019t like histrionics. I don\u2019t like things that raise the stakes without real feeling underneath,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, that actually bothers me because that\u2019s like noise. I don\u2019t know how to play it. I don\u2019t want to watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After a clip of the interview was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Variety\/status\/2055635552326566204\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shared on X<\/a>, many fans took issue with Moore\u2019s statement in the comments section, with many pointing out she has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2017\/09\/21\/the-kingsman-movie-series-needs-to-go-to-rehab\/\">starred in multiple movies\u00a0with guns and violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Moore starring as FBI agent Clarice Starling in \u201cHannibal\u201d (2001). <span class=\"credit\">Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures Inc<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve lost count how many movies she\u2019s done with guns,\u201d one fan wrote. Another added, \u201cFunny how artists forget their own catalog until it\u2019s time to virtue signal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another fan shared, \u201cThat\u2019s great! Now playback all the degenerate, violent entertainment Julianne has happily participated in throughout her career.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A fourth fan wrote, referencing the sequel to \u201cSilence of the Lambs,\u201d which tells the story of serial killer Hannibal Lecter, writing, \u201cA man had his skull removed in Hannibal, and brain eaten.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While many took issue with her comments, others came to her defense, with one writing, \u201cJulianne Moore choosing emotion over chaos is exactly why she\u2019s respected worldwide.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Moore as President Alma Coin in \u201cThe Hunger Games: Mockingjay \u2013 Part 1\u201d (2014). <span class=\"credit\">Murray Close<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI actually agree with her! We already have enough violence in the world! We need good family values in movies back!! Good family fun!! And the movie theaters will be full again! We want to go to the theaters but there\u2019s not enough quality movies going out! That\u2019s why\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/29\/entertainment\/the-devil-wears-prada-2-review-heavier-solid-sequel-proves-miranda-priestly-is-still-in-vogue\/\">The Devil Wears Prada<\/a>\u00a0was great,\u201d another said.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Moore has faced backlash, as Vili Fualaau, who gained national attention for his illicit relationship and marriage with his sixth-grade teacher in the late 1990s, took issue with her film, \u201cMay December,\u201d which told a similar story, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/01\/04\/entertainment\/mary-kay-letourneaus-ex-husband-slams-netflixs-may-december-film-as-a-rip-off\/\">calling the project a \u201cripoff\u201d of his life<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the backlash, Moore maintained when speaking to Entertainment Tonight in January 2024, that throughout filming the movie, director Todd Haynes was \u201calways very clear when we were working on this movie that this was an original story \u2026 a story about these characters.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo that\u2019s how we looked at it too,\u201d Moore said. \u201cThis was our document. We\u00a0created these characters from the page and together.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Moore won an\u00a0Academy Award\u00a0in 2015 for her leading role in \u201cStill Alice,\u201d in which she played a woman dealing with her early onset Alzheimer\u2019s diagnosis.
