after an \u201ceight-year ordeal\u201d \u2014 and she\u2019s receiving a massive payout as a result.<\/p>\n<p>Not only is the Grammy winner being reimbursed for the $64 million fine that was imposed in 2021, but she is getting an additional sum to cover fines and interest.<\/p>\n<p>The songwriter will receive more than $70 million, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/americas\/colombian-singer-shakira-acquitted-tax-fraud-spain-2026-05-18\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters reported<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n<figure wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The judge ruled that authorities did not prove Shakira spent more than 183 days in Spain \u200bin 2011, the requirement for being considered a tax resident.<\/p>\n<p>The singer, 49, celebrated the win \u2014 and insisted \u201cthere was never any fraud\u201d \u2014 in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2026\/05\/18\/shakira-wins-spain-tax-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement to TMZ<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>It read, \u201cAfter more than eight years of enduring brutal public targeting, orchestrated <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/11\/26\/shakira-calls-spanish-tax-fraud-case-smear-campaign-report\/\">campaigns to destroy my reputation<\/a> and sleepless nights that ultimately impacted my health and my family\u2019s well-being, the National High Court has finally set the record straight.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image that has taken an \u200bunacceptable toll, reflecting a \u200black of rigor \u2060in administrative practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The tax agency, however, reportedly plans to appeal with the Supreme Court \u2014 and will not pay Shakira until the final ruling.<\/p>\n<p>The performer\u2019s legal battle, notably, began when she was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2018\/12\/14\/spanish-prosecutors-file-tax-evasion-charges-against-shakira\/\">indicted in 2018<\/a> and she has <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/06\/06\/shakira-appears-before-spanish-judge-in-tax-fraud-case\/\">maintained her innocence<\/a> ever since.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although Shakira denied skipping out on $15.8 million in taxes between 2012 and 2014, she <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/11\/20\/entertainment\/shakira-reaches-deal-with-spanish-prosecutors-ahead-of-fraud-trial\/\">struck up a deal<\/a> with the Spanish government on her first day of trial in November 2023.<\/p>\n<p>After settling for $15 million, Shakira wrote that she did so \u201cwith the best interest of [her] kids at heart.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Milan, 13, and Sasha, 11, did \u201cnot want to see their mom sacrifice her personal well-being in this fight,\u201d she explained in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>In a Mundo essay the following year, Shakira <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/09\/05\/celebrity-news\/shakira-settled-15m-spanish-tax-case-to-protect-her-kids\/\">doubled down on making the choice<\/a> to \u201cprotect\u201d her and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/06\/04\/shakira-announces-split-from-soccer-star-gerard-pique\/\">ex Gerard Piqu\u00e9<\/a>\u2018s sons.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image tapped as one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/14\/celebrity-news\/madonna-shakira-and-bts-set-to-headline-first-ever-halftime-show-at-fifa-world-cup-2026\/\">FIFA World Cup 2026 halftime show performers<\/a>, alongside Madonna and K-pop band BTS.<\/p>\n<p>Fans, meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/05\/14\/sports\/fifas-world-cup-final-halftime-show-sparks-outrage-we-dont-want-it\/\">raged against the decision<\/a> and insisted they \u201cdon\u2019t want\u201d a halftime show, calling the decision an attempt to \u201cmake everything americanified.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a
