York Yankees vs. New York Mets game on Saturday, Hanks had an epic interaction with the latter team\u2019s mascot, who dressed up as Wilson, the volleyball companion to Hanks\u2019 character in \u201cCast Away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/DYa_iVHsMrl\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;ig_rid=0d3eb211-f866-44a3-9e85-8efd0833ee2a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a video <\/a>from the game at Citi Field, Hanks, 69, popped up on the jumbotron and was surprised by Mr. Met, who had a large red handprint on his face to look like the bloody volleyball.<\/p>\n<figure wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>After the pair shook hands, Hanks shouted \u201cWilson\u201d \u2014 the famous line uttered by his character, Chuck Noland, in the 2000 film.<\/p>\n<p>Hanks then pulled out a notebook and jokingly went over game pointers with the mascot.<\/p>\n<p>The Oscar winner previously reunited with Wilson in 2022, when he held a blood-smeared volleyball over his head as he threw out the first pitch at a Cleveland Guardians vs. San Francisco Giants game.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter FedEx troubleshooter who ends up stranded on a deserted island after his plane crashes in the South Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>During his fight for survival, Chuck gets blood on a volleyball, which he names Wilson and adopts as his surrogate companion. <\/p>\n<p>Later in the film, Wilson ends up accidentally washing off Chuck\u2019s raft during a storm and drifts away from Chuck into the href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/shorts\/mYyAXjJ5-OA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024 interview with ReelBlend<\/a>, Hanks explained how Wilson ended up becoming vital to the film\u2019s plot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a different sort of screenplay in that Chuck Noland spoke all the time,\u201d he said. \u201cWe got to the island and literally, the very first shot, we say [to director Robert Zemeckis], \u2018I don\u2019t see any reason for Chuck to talk here, unless you think somebody is there.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd Bob said, \u2018You know, that\u2019d be great because you\u2019re not really going to have any lines until Wilson shows up.\u2019 I said, \u2018Perfect,\u2019\u201d Hanks recalled.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image revealed in a 2009 interview with the BBC that he was hospitalized and almost died of a staph infection while filming \u201cCast Away.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was there for three days with something that, believe it or not, almost killed me,\u201d he explained. \u201cI got an infection from a cut, and it was eating its way through my leg.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hanks was nominated for the 2001 Best Actor
