We have suspended our normal programs until further notice as a mark of respect following the passing of His Majesty King Charles III,\u201d the broadcast said, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/royal-family\/2026\/05\/20\/listen-radio-station-mistakenly-announces-kings-death\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to The Telegraph<\/a>. \u201cThis is Radio Caroline. His Majesty King Charles III has passed away. As a mark of respect, we will play continuous, suitable music until further notice.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cGod Save the King\u201d then played over the airwaves before the station fell silent for roughly 15 minutes.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Station manager Peter Moore later apologized and blamed the mistake on a computer error.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to a computer error at our main studio, the Death of a Monarch procedure, which all UK stations hold in readiness while hoping not to require, was accidentally activated on Tuesday afternoon (May 19), mistakenly announcing that HM the King had passed away,\u201d Moore wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/photo?fbid=1563160622478801&amp;set=a.388002376661304\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a Facebook statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRadio Caroline then fell silent as would be required, which alerted us to restore programming and issue an on-air apology.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Radio Caroline manager Peter Moore later issued an apology on Facebook. <span class=\"credit\">Radio Caroline<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe apologize to HM the King and to our listeners for any distress caused,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The on-air announcement sparked confusion among some listeners, who later took to social media to describe their reactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI dashed indoors shouting to the missus \u2018He\u2019s dead! Charlie is dead!\u2019 She looked puzzled,\u201d one listener wrote after the mix-up.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Charles and can happen and was glad to find out it wasn\u2019t true,\u201d a third added.<\/p>\n<p>The station did not say exactly how long the false report remained on air before staff realized what had website by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>British broadcasters are required to keep detailed procedures ready for the death of a reigning monarch, including pre-prepared announcements and programming changes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The awkward mix-up came while Charles and Queen Camilla were carrying out public engagements in Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image House<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While in New York City, Charles and Camilla <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/29\/us-news\/mamdani-meets-king-charles-iii-at-9-11-museum-memorial-during-royal-nyc-visit\/\">paid their respects at the 9\/11 Memorial<\/a>, visited Harlem Grown for an event with local kids focused on urban farming and capped off the trip with a business reception at Rockefeller Center.<\/p>\n<p>The king has faced repeated online death rumors since revealing in February 2024 that he had been <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/12\/entertainment\/king-charles-gives-emotional-update-on-cancer-fight-in-tv-address\/\">diagnosed with cancer<\/a> following a procedure for an enlarged prostate.<\/p>\n<p>Buckingham Palace was previously forced to shut down a false report in March 2024 after <a
