in a Substack entry<\/a> posted Wednesday titled, \u201cLaura Is In The Hospital \u2013 Police, Fire and Ambulance came out..\u201d<\/p>\n\u201cI got a text from Laura at 8 PM saying, \u2018I\u2019m dying. Come by now now now,\u2019\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n
Hilton described the text as \u201cvery confusing\u201d and admitted he thought she could have meant it in a joking manner.<\/p>\nLaura Clery (pictured above in an ambulance) texted her ex-husband, Stephen Hilton, saying, \u201cI\u2019m dying. But why the \u2018now now now\u2019?\u201d He said it \u201cseemed completely out of character\u201d for her, so he replied with a question mark.<\/p>\n
But Hilton, 52, couldn\u2019t have been farther from the truth as Clery, 39, was being crushed by a 600-pound refrigerator and \u201ccouldn\u2019t breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI then got a call from a hyperventilating Laura, barely able to get words out, panicking, struggling for breath, saying, \u2018Help me help me help me help me,’\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
Hilton explained that his first thought was that \u201csomething awful\u201d had happened to one of their two children, Alfie, 7, and Poppy, 5, who were home during the crisis.<\/p>\nBut Clery (pictured here at the hospital) was being crushed by a 600-pound refrigerator and \u201ccouldn\u2019t breathe.\u201d Instagram\/lauraclery<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cI then got a call from a hyperventilating Laura, barely able to get words out, panicking, struggling for breath,\u201d Hilton recalled. Eventually, through the panic, we got to the center of it,\u201d the British record producer and composer continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cI could hear her saying to Poppy, \u2018Go and get me a cushion. Go unlock the door,\u2019 all disjointed and frantic. And Pop, to her credit, was remaining calm, but saying, \u2018I\u2019m just a kid.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Hilton said he tried his best to keep Clery on the phone because as he had \u201cseen in films\u201d that \u201cif someone passes out, they\u2019re more likely to die.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instagram\/lauraclery<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cWhen I arrived in the kitchen, I was stunned to find about seven firemen in the room along with two paramedics. It took three men to lift the fridge off Laura,\u201d he recounted. \u201cShe was inconsolable and panicking, and I tried to stay calm and show her I was there.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Hilton, the incident occurred because their eldest child, who is autistic, had \u201caccidentally pulled the fridge out of the housing it was supposed to have been securely fastened to when we built the house.<\/p>\n
It seems some work had been done on the fridge recently and out of the eight screws that were supposed to hold it in place, only two had been put back in,\u201d Hilton said, noting that he\u2019s \u201cgoing to try and find the guys responsible<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\nHilton said Clery was released from the hospital around 3 a.m. and is recovering at home.<\/p>\n

She was exhausted and went straight to sleep.\u201d<\/p>\nAccording to Hilton, the incident occurred because their eldest child had \u201caccidentally pulled the fridge out of the housing\u201d after he climbed on it. Clery and Hilton split in 2023 after 10 years of marriage.<\/p>\n
The comic has said Hilton\u2019s relapse into substance addiction \u2014 which he also opened up about in his Substack post \u2014 played a big role in the dissolution of their marriage.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
