The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) shared an urgent alert on social media in order to help <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/motoring\/\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">motorists<\/a> keep their personal information safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In an X post, the <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/motoring\/uk-drivers-who-sat-nav-37196227\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">DVLA <\/a>said criminals are sending fake messages to motorists. The warning said: &#8220;Scammers are targeting drivers with fake texts and emails pretending to be DVLA.&#8221; Thankfully, people can protect themselves by following the three tips outlined in the post.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">As the DVLA outlined, motorists should always use Gov.uk, and they should not share personal information. The DVLA added: &#8220;Think before you click.&#8221; Concluding the post, the message linked to a Gov.uk webpage that shared the DVLA&#8217;s top tips for avoiding scams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/dvlas-top-tips-for-avoiding-scams\" rel=\"nofollow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">website <\/a>says: &#8220;The only place to access official information on DVLA and its services is GOV.UK. Using any other website could mean you\u2019ll be charged more for services that are either cheaper or completely free on GOV.UK. Other websites may even be fraudulent, so our advice is to always use GOV.UK when transacting with DVLA.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The page highlights the risks associated with scam emails and texts. DVLA guidance explains: &#8220;Fraudsters will often send emails or text messages to unsuspecting victims asking them to confirm personal details, such as bank or payment information. We will only ask you to confirm your personal details by email or text if you have a live enquiry with us.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;And vehicle tax refunds are issued automatically \u2013 never via an email with a link! If you receive one of these emails or texts, do not click on any links. Instead, report it to the <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ncsc.gov.uk\/information\/report-suspicious-emails\" rel=\"nofollow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">National Cyber Security Centre<\/a> and delete it immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Drivers are warned not to share their driving licence or vehicle information online, as it could put them at risk if criminals steal it.
