He\u2019d shown me a short film with\u00a0Philip Baker Hall \u2014 who was in \u2018Hard Eight.\u2019\u00a0And we were going to do something and it didn\u2019t work out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnyway, David did call me, and it showed a lot of class that he would call me back and invite me again, and I didn\u2019t want to say no to him again because I have great respect for his talent,\u201d\u00a0he movie of Russell\u2019s he turned down, but noted it was \u201ca million years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a good movie, and he offered it and I said no, and he\u2019s the only director that I psychological thriller following two Los Angeles homicide detectives investigating a murder in Alaska, was both critically acclaimed and a box office hit, <a href=\"https:\/\/movieweb.com\/christopher-nolan-movies-ranked-by-box-office-performance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">grossing over $113 million<\/a> worldwide. <\/p>\n<p>Nolan is known for <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/21\/style\/the-odyssey-leading-ladies-go-elemental-for-glam-elle-magazine-covers\/\">his star-studded casts<\/a>, as well as working multiple times with the same actors, including Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy and more.<\/p>\n<p>Nolan, 55, recently defended the casting in his highly anticipated \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which comes out on July 17 \u2014 particularly, <a href=\"http:\/\/%E2%80%9CI%20cast%20him%20because%20I%20wanted%20to%20nod%20towards%20the%20idea%20that%20this%20story%20has%20been%20handed%20down%20as%20oral%20poetry,%20which%20is%20analogous%20to%20rap,%E2%80%9D%20Nolan,%2055,%20explained.\">casting musician Travis Scott <\/a>as a bard in his adaptation of the ancient Greek epic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cast him because I wanted to nod towards the idea that this story has been handed down as oral
