Do not proceed unless you\u2019ve watched \u201cEuphoria\u2019s\u201d seventh episode of Season 3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sam Levinson gave the \u201cEuphoria\u201d audience \u201cwhat they want[ed]\u201d when he <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/24\/entertainment\/euphoria-kills-off-jacob-elordis-nate-jacobs\/\">killed off Jacob Elordi\u2019s character<\/a>, Nate Jacobs, in a \u201chorrific\u201d scene Sunday night.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/04\/12\/entertainment\/how-to-watch-euphoria-season-3-on-hbo-and-hbo-max\/\">Season 3\u2019s penultimate episode aired<\/a> over the weekend, the showrunner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.esquire.com\/entertainment\/tv\/a71388146\/euphoria-nate-death-sam-levinson\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">spoke to \u201cEsquire\u201d<\/a> about pressure from viewers to deliver \u201cjustice or karma.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">The Hollywood Reporter via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The filmmaker, 41, recalled asking himself, \u201cHow can I give [fans] what they want, but make it so horrific and anxiety-inducing that by the time it happens, the audience isn\u2019t so sure they wanted it?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, you wanted him to get his comeuppance\u2026? OK,\u2019\u201d Levinson told the outlet while laughing. \u201cThat feeling of complicity with the audience is always an interesting note to play inside of this sort of larger structure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jacobs, notably, died in episode 7 by being buried alive \u2014 <em>and <\/em>bit by a rattlesnake.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His body is later exhumed by a backhoe.<\/p>\n<p>Levinson hopes audience members are left with \u201cexciting\u201d questions, like, \u201cOh God, I don\u2019t know. Should he have had it better?\u00a0<em>Did<\/em>\u00a0he deserve it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The director initially wanted Jacobs to die a different way, he revealed to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cII always loved the movie\u00a0\u2018The Candy Snatchers\u2019\u00a0where the girl gets buried alive with a pipe as an air hole. So I had imagined that Nate would get buried alive,\u201d he said \u2014 but then he \u201cjust had this image of a rattlesnake coming towards this pipe.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Variety via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Levinson wanted Jacobs to be \u201cbanging\u201d while the snake \u201csensed the movement in the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the Emmy nominee was \u201clistening to Otis Redding\u201d with \u201cthe windows down\u201d while \u201cdriving to Warner Brothers\u201d on \u201cone of those gorgeous L.A. days where it was perfect weather.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He noted, \u201cIt\u2019s sort of a funny moment where you realize that not all dark scenes come from a dark place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Elordi, in an HBO interview that aired after the show, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/25\/entertainment\/how-jacob-elordi-feels-about-euphoria-character-nate-jacobs-gruesome-death\/\">dubbed his death scene a \u201ccool way to go.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">HBO Max<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">HBO MAX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He added, \u201cNate was someone who has made so many mistakes and made so many dark choices.
