After the news broke, Tanya wrote an emotional social media post noting she wasn\u2019t able to see her father a final time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWaking up to the news that your dad has died and not being given the opportunity to see him one last time is a hell I wouldn\u2019t wish on my worst enemy,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DXwoji0DoOD\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> she wrote.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>David Allen Coe\u2019s estranged daughter Tanya Montana Coe said in an emotional social media post Wednesday she wasn\u2019t given the opportunity to see him a final time before he died. He had four kids with Jody \u2014 Tanya, as well as Tyler, Shyanne, and Carson.<\/p>\n<p>David was married five times before meeting his sixth wife, Kimberly Hastings Coe, whom he married in 2010.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The legendary singer \u2014 seen here in July 2015 \u2014 died Wednesday in a hospital, his rep confirmed. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>He was 86 years old. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage for Shock Ink<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In September 2025, Tanya \u2014 who\u2019s also a musician \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOl9QGjjlHj\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared that she had been estranged from her dad <\/a>for \u201cquite awhile\u201d in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuffice it to say, my father disowned me \u2026 blamed it on Jody, told me they were moving out of state and he couldn\u2019t tell me where they were moving to,\u201d she claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe shed a tear \u2026 real or crocodile I am not sure, threw 200 dollars at my feet, rolled up the window of the limo and drove off without a second glance,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>She shared in the same post that she just found out that she had a half brother who was born four and a half months after her.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tanya wrote in September 2025 that she had been estranged from her dad for \u201cquite awhile.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">tanyamontanacoemusic\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tanya claimed that the \u201cTake This Job and Shove It\u201d writer (pictured here in 1970) disowned her and that he blamed it on her mother \u2014 his ex-wife Jody Lynn Coe, whom he shared four kids with. <span class=\"credit\">Michael Ochs Archives<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m processing a lot of family stuff rn \u262e\ufe0f\u2764\ufe0f,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Tanya isn\u2019t the only one of David\u2019s children that was estranged from him.
