I don\u2019t hang with people like that,\u201d Wayans told Variety on Monday. \u201cI know Dave\u2019s heart, and his intention isn\u2019t to punch down. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cDave wants to freely tell his jokes, and if you\u2019re going to be anti-comedy, then he\u2019s going to keep attacking you until you learn to have a sense of humor. He\u2019s just standing there and defending his front line as a comedian.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cScary Movie\u201d actor was asked how he views that relationship considering his own transgender child. And as a friend, I respect his journey. And for my child, I respect their journey,\u201d Wayans said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd as the father of my child, I can appropriate my feelings toward my friend and my feelings toward my child, and how we can put those two things together, and I can explain both sides. I\u2019m between them, so I can explain both sides to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wayans revealed that he even attempted to include a cameo for Chappelle in the upcoming \u201cScary Movie 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Marlon Wayans speaks during the \u201cScary Movie\u201d Atlanta Creator Event at Regal Atlanta Station on May 18, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI wrote two really funny scenes for Chappelle and pitched them both. And he was like, \u2018Ahhhh,\u2019\u201d Wayans said. \u201cI love Dave, and he\u2019s like a brother, and I hope one day I\u2019ll get that cameo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Digital reached out to Chappelle\u2019s publicist for comment.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Chappelle faced backlash from the left for <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/10\/25\/dave-chappelle-addresses-closer-netflix-special-controversy\/\">transgender jokes in his Netflix special<\/a>, \u201cThe Closer.\u201d Trans activists urged Netflix to drop the program and a small group of Netflix employees also staged a walkout in protest.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>In 2021, Chappelle faced backlash from the left for transgender jokes in his Netflix special.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In 2023, he continued to make jokes about transgender people in his special \u201cThe Dreamer,\u201d when he recounted visiting Jim Carrey on the set of his 1999 movie, \u201cThe Man on the Moon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carrey employed a \u201cmethod\u201d approach to portraying real-life comedian Andy Kaufman by remaining in character at all times, and Chappelle was told by the crew to address Carrey as \u201cAndy\u201d when he met him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to meet Jim Carrey and I had to pretend this n\u2014a was Andy Kaufman all afternoon. And he was clearly Jim Carrey.
