I can\u2019t believe that you are doing this.\u2019 And I even said, \u2018I thought we were friends!\u2019 It sounded so pitiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Gayle King (pictured here on Wednesday) shared that she walked in on her now ex-husband, William Bumpus, cheating on her before their 1993 divorce. <span class=\"credit\">Call Her Daddy\/Youtube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The journalist (pictured here with her ex in February) caught the attorney with her friend after arriving home early from a work trip. <span class=\"credit\">NBAE via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>To make matters worse, King accidentally triggered their home alarm system when she got there. <\/p>\n<p>The cops who arrived on scene asked for the anchor\u2019s autograph after recognizing her from the local news.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to say, \u2018Could you take out the trash?\u2019 But I didn\u2019t,\u201d King, 71, recounted to host Alex Cooper, adding that she didn\u2019t want the police to know what was happening. \u201cI just wanted to get them in and out as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For King, the most important part was to protect her children \u2014 daughter Kirby, now 40, and son Will, now 39. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The reporter\u2019s main focus was to protect her children, Kirby and Will (pictured here together in 2019). <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The anchor, however, did want to call her friend\u2019s husband to let him know what his wife did.  <span class=\"credit\">Call Her Daddy\/Youtube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Despite wanting to keep the attorney\u2019s affair under wraps, the mom of two thought about calling her friend\u2019s husband. <\/p>\n<p>Bumpus begged her not to, claiming that the woman and her husband had a good marriage. <\/p>\n<p>He eventually took the other woman to the train station, leaving King to ring her best friend, Oprah Winfrey. <\/p>\n<p>The talk show host, 72, had some sound advice for her long time pal.  <\/p>\n<p>King shared: \u201cShe said, \u2018Well, call her husband.\u2019 I go, \u2018You think I should call?\u2019 [She said], \u2018Yes. You think I should get some help? Does your wife have a pink satin pajama top? Does she have some green mint panties that go with that? And, oh, by the way \u2026 there are semen stains in my bed. So am I delusional and out of touch with reality?&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The talk show host (pictured here with King in 2025) convinced the author to call the woman\u2019s husband.
