The film tells the origin story of Hansen\u2019s notorious \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d series.<\/p>\n<p>The logline for \u201cPrimetime\u201d reads, \u201cIn 2006, \u2018To Catch a Predator\u2019 host Chris Hansen sets out to make television history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pattinson, 40, drastically changed his voice to embody Hansen, who became famous for hosting the \u201cDateline\u201d segment \u201cTo Catch a Predator.\u201d The segment, which ran from 2004 to 2007, centered around Hansen confronting adult men trying to have sex with minors with hidden cameras.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Robert Pattinson transformed into Chris Hansen in the trailer for \u201cPrimetime,\u201d which dropped Wednesday. <span class=\"credit\">YouTube\/A24<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The investigative journalist is known for his notorious \u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d segment on \u201cDateline.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">YouTube\/A24<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Pattinson (as Hansen) says in a voice-over in the trailer, \u201cWhat would have happened if I wasn\u2019t here? You see how this looks, right?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continues, \u201cAt the end of the day, men must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes, do you agree?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dark trailer shows footage of potential Internet predators getting caught on video.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you watch television?\u201d the voice-over continues. \u201cWell there\u2019s something you should know. The film also stars Anna Faris, Pheobe Bridgers, Merritt Wever and Skyler Gisondo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo Catch a Predator\u201d has been controversial since its debut. The series featured Hansen\u2019s team posing as underage boys and girls on the Internet, then ambushing adult men in a sting operation after getting them to try to meet up with the minors they were posing as.<\/p>\n<p>Hansen would then confront the men with embarrassing evidence of the chats, and often the men would later be arrested by police, who were waiting outside for them.<\/p>\n<p>Critics questioned the vigilante approach of the show \u2014 especially after Texas assistant district attorney Bill Conradt committed suicide in 2006 when \u201cDateline\u201d cameras and police surrounded his house to arrest him.
