Underneath was the gold dress, which caught the Parisian sunlight enough to briefly concern the tennis star.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI actually got a little worried because when the sun hits the dress, it reflects a lot,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/naomi-osaka-outfit-french-open-a2851a8bd258fd0cd364e98932c2331b\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cSo I was a little scared that the umpire was going to kick me off the court, so I had two backup normal Nike dresses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>No backup was necessary. Osaka won the match, and offered a memorable explanation of the dress\u2019s inspiration afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know the Eiffel Tower at night when it\u2019s like sparkly? I kind of think I look like that a little bit,\u201d she said, adding that the outfit was \u201ca nod to France and also couture, which is something that I really love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka co-signed the look while watching live on TNT Sports. \u201cI love that she\u2019s expressing herself. French seamstress Diana Martinez posted the look to her Instagram Story, calling it the \u201cmost incredible and surreal\u201d project she\u2019s worked on.<\/p>\n<p>Osaka removed the train \u2014 which snapped on to the jacket \u2014 and passed both pieces to a ball kid before warmups, unveiling the same gold dress underneath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to keep people on their toes and I think it\u2019s really fun,\u201d she said in her on-court interview, declining to say whether she\u2019s planned a new entrance outfit for every round.<\/p>\n<p>The victory puts Osaka in the French Open third round for the first time since 2019.
