In 2022, they wrote the movie \u201cCauseway\u201d \u2014 starring Jennifer Lawrence \u2014 along with Elizabeth Sanders.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Literary power couple Ottessa Moshfegh and Luke Goebel have separated. <span class=\"credit\">Variety via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In mid April Goebel <a href=\"https:\/\/lithub.com\/on-the-dark-arts-of-writing-dangerously-and-marriage-and-life-in-l-a\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote an essay<\/a> for Literary Hub titled \u201cOn the Dark Arts of Writing Dangerously (and Marriage, and Life in L.A.),\u201d in which he discusses collaborating with Moshfegh and alludes to the dissolution of their marriage.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Moshfegh confirmed the separation in a <a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/@ottessa\/note\/c-245043463\">comment on Substack<\/a> saying \u201cJust FYI, Luke and I have been separated since July,\u201d with a link to the article.<\/p>\n<p>In the article Goebel describes working together on a movie about Debbie Harry for\u00a0A24 and says that they had four movies under contract.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Moshfegh confirmed the split on Substack. <span class=\"credit\">PA Images via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The pair worked together on the movies \u201cEileen,\u201d and \u201cCauseway.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Moshfegh is a critical darling. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/books\/page-turner\/ottessa-moshfeghs-painful-funny-novel-of-a-young-womans-chemical-hibernation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018 New Yorker article <\/a>called her \u201ceasily the most interesting contemporary American writer on the subject of being alive when being alive feels terrible.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>She won the Hemingway Foundation\/PEN Award for 2015\u2019s \u201cEileen,\u201d and it was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.\u00a0She\u2019s also written \u201cMcGlue,\u201d \u201cDeath in Her Hands,\u201d \u201cLapvona,\u201d and \u201cHomesick for Another World.\u201d She also writes the Substack \u201cIt\u2019s Ottessa, bitch.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Goebel has won the Ronald Sukenick Innovative Fiction Prize and the Joan Scott Memorial Fiction Award. <\/p>\n<p>His books include \u201cFourteen Stories,\u201d and \u201cNone of Them Are Yours.\u201d He has a new book out called \u201cKill Dick.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/28\/society\/literary-power-couple-ottessa-moshfegh-and-luke-goebel-split\/\" target=\"_blank\">Source link<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This literary power couple have decided to shelve their marriage.
