Singh then dumped her body in the street and doused her in AdBlue &#8211; an exhaust fluid used in diesel vehicles &#8211; in a calculated attempt to eliminate any traces of himself from her body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The following day, the court heard Singh, of Leopard Lane, West Bromwich, went to work &#8220;as if nothing had happened&#8221;. He was found guilty of murder by jurors following a two-week trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He was sentenced to life <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"imprisonmentLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/prisons\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">imprisonment<\/a>, with a minimum term of 29 years, on Wednesday (May 27). During sentencing, Judge Michael Chambers KC described the murder as &#8220;both brutal and degrading&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He said: &#8220;Having killed her, you discarded her naked body against a pile of rubbish at the side of the road.&#8221; The judge added: &#8220;She was worth a great deal more than that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Judge Chambers declared he was convinced there was intent to kill, pointing to Ms Millar&#8217;s &#8220;unusual number of neck fractures&#8221; and the fact that Singh had testified in court that he throttled her for &#8216;many minutes&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The judge stated: &#8220;I find this to be a particularly cruel and tragic case. I accept that you did not set out that night to take her life but that does little to diminish the seriousness of what happened.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The court was told how Ms Millar, 41, was discovered in Woodburn Road, Smethwick, during the early hours of August 11 last year. Judge Chambers stated: &#8220;By August of last year, Ms Millar was trapped in a cycle of drug addiction and having to work the streets to fund it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">&#8220;She was of slight build and highly vulnerable as a lone woman at night on the streets of Smethwick. That Sunday night, having spent the early evening socialising, drinking alcohol and taking cocaine, you went in your work van looking for a sex worker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Singh subsequently collected Ms Millar, who guided him to nearby Woodburn Road. He relocated her clothes and possessions so they were positioned around her and placed the other trainer on her body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Singh then doused her with AdBlue, returned home and went to bed. He awoke at approximately 6.30am the next day, removed anything &#8216;incriminating&#8217; still in his van and departed for work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Police subsequently tracked down Singh and arrested him, with the defendant responding no comment during questioning. Judge Chambers said: &#8220;He simply waited for the Crown&#8217;s case and weaved his story accordingly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The court heard Singh had received a caution dating back to 2012 for obstructing police and a second in 2020 for possession of cocaine. Mr Garcha asserted that the letter was not a &#8216;cynical ploy designed to impress the court&#8217;, explaining how Singh had refuted the murder charge and chosen a trial &#8216;because he was not strong enough&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Singh&#8217;s &#8216;sense of shame&#8217; also contributed to his denial as he was worried about the opinions of others, including his family, Mr Garcha added. Mr Garcha continued to say &#8216;there is a side of Singh&#8217;s character that is darker&#8217; and that &#8216;manifested itself&#8217; on the day of the murder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">He highlighted the murderer&#8217;s lack of prior convictions, adding: &#8220;He is the author of his own fortune. He can have nobody to blame but himself. Ms Millar is entirely blameless in this episode.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Singh has &#8216;adjusted well to the prison regime&#8217; and has become a &#8216;trusted prisoner&#8217;, with a job while on remand.
