weeks, Vivienne and Knox Jolie-Pitt officially become adults.<\/p>\n<p>But forget the streamers and the cake: The twins\u2019 18th birthday, on July 12, truly marks the end of a <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/video\/a-history-of-brad-pitt-and-angelina-jolies-parenting-drama-amid-zaharas-savage-graduation-diss\/\">10-year battle between their parents, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt<\/a> \u2014 and finally brings a full stop to the couple known as \u201cBrangelina.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Hollywood icons have been<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/06\/08\/entertainment\/angelina-jolie-has-already-won-the-family-war-against-brad-pitt\/\"> fighting their way through the courts<\/a> since September 2016, when Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt after just two years of marriage, alleging torment at the hands of the \u201cOnce Upon a Time in Hollywood\u201d actor.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, seen with their six children at Tokyo\u2019s Haneda International Airport in November 2011, were together for a total of 12 years and married for two. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For years, the pair were embroiled in a lengthy custody battle over their six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara,<strong> <\/strong>21, Shiloh, 20, and the twins.<\/p>\n<p>After their birthday, Vivienne and Knox will no longer be beholden to the residual custody agreement, which gave Pitt visitation rights with his minor children while Jolie had primary custody.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>We\u2019re told Pitt now has a \u201cvery limited\u201d relationship with the brood, many of whom no longer use his surname \u2014 including Maddox, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/29\/parents\/another-of-brad-pitts-children-files-to-legally-drop-actors-last-name-report\/\">who legally filed to drop \u201cPitt\u201d this week.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAngelina has alienated the children from Brad\u201d \u2014\u00a0particularly \u201cthe ones that she knew were especially close to him,\u201d the source said.<\/p>\n<figure set out to isolate her children from their father and stressed they had issues with the word \u201calienated\u201d being used with kids who allegedly experienced such family drama.<\/p>\n<p>Some within the ex-couple\u2019s circle muse that Jolie initially believed Pitt might beg her to take him back, despite the toxic allegations.<\/p>\n<p>And when that didn\u2019t happen, one source said, things turned<strong> <\/strong>explosive.<\/p>\n<p>This was denied as \u201ccategorically false\u201d by the insider familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2022, Jolie, who will celebrate her 51st birthday Thursday, filed an anonymous lawsuit under the\u00a0Freedom of Information Act, requesting the release of documents pertaining to an alleged domestic abuse incident on board a private jet from France to the US in September 2016.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>When Zahara Jolie  graduated from Spelman College earlier this month, she collected her diploma without the \u201cPitt\u201d name. <span class=\"credit\">London Entertainment \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In court docs Jolie claimed her then-husband had \u201callegedly physically and verbally assaulted\u201d her and their kids during the plane ride, causing them to experience \u201clasting physical and mental trauma as a result of the assault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pitt has consistently denied all of <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/10\/04\/angelina-jolie-kids-were-traumatized-by-brad-pitts-alleged-plane-abuse\/\">Jolie\u2019s physical abuse allegations.<\/a> Child welfare services cleared him of wrongdoing at the time, and the US Attorney\u2019s Office declined to pursue charges due to insufficient evidence.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/09\/27\/celebrity-news\/angelina-jolie-ends-legal-battle-against-fbi-over-claims-brad-pitt-abused-her-in-private-jet\/\">Jolie officially dropped her He has now been sober for nearly 10 years with the help of a men\u2019s-only AA group, including Bradley Cooper, revealing on \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/us4ddWJeZIY?si=1zq5jvQnOJc36-XG\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\u201cArmchair Expert with Dax Shepard<\/a>,\u201d last June: \u201cIt was a difficult time. I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f\u2013k up in some areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But that hasn\u2019t been enough to win back several of his children.<\/p>\n<p>When daughter Zahara <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/20\/celebrity-news\/brad-pitt-has-pda-packed-date-night-with-ines-de-ramon-after-zaharas-graduation-snub\/\">graduated earlier this month <\/a>from the prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, she was announced as \u201cZahara Marley Jolie\u201d during the commencement. It\u2019s a silly thing really.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maddox, who had been studying in North Korea, where he was born,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/26\/celebrity-news\/angelina-jolie-and-brad-pitts-son-maddox-drops-dads-famous-last-name\/\">ditched his dad\u2019s surname<\/a>\u00a0in February for his work as an assistant director on Jolie\u2019s most recent movie, \u201cCouture.\u201d He previously used \u201cJolie-Pitt\u201d when credited as an executive producer on his mom\u2019s 2024 film \u201cMaria,\u201d on which his brother Pax worked as a production assistant.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pax Jolie-Pitt suffered serious injuries and ended up in ICU after a motorbike crash in LA in August 2024. He was spotted on his bike without a helmet a month before the crash. <span class=\"credit\">Terma, SL \/ BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s not known if Pax uses Pitt\u2019s name, though he called his father \u201ca world class a\u2013hole\u201d in a 2020 social media post.<\/p>\n<p>As for Knox, he was seen this week in LA, sporting bright red hair while leaving Muay Thai lessons; he\u2019s been studying the martial art for years and has competed in championships.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Pax has worked as a production assistant on his mom\u2019s movies, including \u201cMaria\u201d and the upcoming \u201cCouture.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">SL \/ Terma \/ BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe children, who are now adults who make their own decisions, were not only affected by what happened on that plane 10 years ago, but what has happened since \u2014\u00a0[Pitt] continuing to cover up and minimize his own behavior,\u201d the family insider said. \u201cThis has had the biggest impact on his relationships with the children. When will people start asking real questions about what happened to the kids?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA judge actually looked at the facts. He had a 168-page decision that gave them 50\/50 custody that was based on testimony from people who lived with them, dealt with them on a regular basis, therapists \u00a0and all sorts of people, including the kids themselves and what they had said,\u201d said the source in the know.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a fair conclusion, it allowed both parents to be in a situation of raising the kids, which is best for the children,\u201d the source added, but an \u201catrocious\u201d decision was made of procedural issues. \u201cIt had an influence on the kids, because the likelihood of going through that whole thing again was extremely low.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Maddox (right, at a \u201cMaria\u201d screening in 2024 with siblings Pax and Zahara) filed to legally drop \u201cPitt\u201d from his name on Thursday. <span class=\"credit\">GC Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p> In 2024, sources alleged to <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/angelina-jolie-source-claims-brad-pitt-trying-punish-her-winery-case-exclusive-8652662\">People<\/a> that Pitt\u2019s lawyers were using the fight over their Ch\u00e2teau Miraval winery to \u201cpunish\u201d her for leaving him.
