Do not proceed unless you\u2019ve watched \u201cEuphoria\u201d Season 3 episode 8.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cEuphoria\u201d fans are \u201cshattered\u201d over <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/05\/31\/entertainment\/does-zendayas-rue-die-in-the-euphoria-season-3-finale\/\">Zendaya\u2019s Rue dying inthe \u201cEuphoria\u201d series finale<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Viewers shared their reactions on X after watching\u00a0Rue accidentally overdose from taking painkillers laced with fentanyl by drug lord Alamo Brown (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ending completely shattered me,\u201d one fan <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/oyemnassxo\/status\/2061260803165306988\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote on X<\/a> after the episode aired Sunday night.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cEuphoria\u201d fans shared their social media reactions to Zendaya\u2019s Rue dying in the \u201cEuphoria\u201d series finale. <span class=\"credit\">HBO MAX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Fans said on X they\u2019re \u201cshattered\u201d over Rue dying of an accidental drug overdose (Zendaya and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje are pictured above in the show). <span class=\"credit\">HBO MAX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cRegardless of how beautifully it was done, the fact remains that rue died over being laced, she was sober and was free to have a good life! her dying is such a terrible ending, for a show that is meant to give hope for addicts!\u201d another viewer <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mr_tashiduncan\/status\/2061295974895767885\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Someone else <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sweettners\/status\/2061268324525240328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tweeted<\/a>, \u201cRue bennet dying scene has me sobbing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/watchwithdiya\/status\/2061282327330767282\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A different fan<\/a> noted that Zendaya\u2019s \u201csilence on season 3 makes this finale even more devastating,\u201d speculating that the actress \u201cdidn\u2019t want this ending for Rue at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe deserved so so much better. i genuinely cannot stop crying this isn\u2019t fair,\u201d the same fan added of Rue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/lidpanta\/status\/2061405394447012209\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another disappointed viewer <\/a>wrote, \u201cThe whole season I expected Rue to die, but I didn\u2019t expect such a sad, not epic and quiet death. And the fact that everyone will forever label her as just the drug addict who died of an overdose devastates me even more.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>One viewer said while Rue\u2019s death scene was \u201cbeautifully done,\u201d they thought her fate was \u201csuch a terrible ending\u201d for the show (Zendaya is pictured above as Rue) <span class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><figcaption>Other fans said they were \u201csobbing\u201d over the scene where Colman Domingo\u2019s character finds Rue dead (Domingo is pictured above). <span class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Creator Sam Levinson <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/01\/entertainment\/euphoria-creator-sam-levinson-defends-killing-zendayas-chracter-rue-in-season-3-finale\/\">defended the decision to kill off Rue <\/a>in a post-finale HBO interview, noting that her fate was most \u201chonest ending\u201d for the show.<\/p>\n<p>Levinson also said he was motivated to kill Rue as a way to honor late cast member Angus Cloud, who\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2023\/07\/31\/euphoria-star-angus-cloud-dead-at-25\/\">accidentally overdosed in July 2023<\/a>\u00a0at 25.<\/p>\n<p>Cloud\u2019s character Fezco appeared Rue\u2019s dream as she overdoses. The sequence featured unused footage of Zendaya and Cloud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople relapse. They f\u2013k up. They\u2019re not ready to get clean,\u201d Levinson explained. \u201cThere\u2019s no reason to sugarcoat it.
