Instead, she learned how physically dependent she had become.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t know how addictive that stuff was,\u201d she said, referring to the drug. \u201cI just thought I took it every day. I didn\u2019t know that you really had to like medically detox from it. And I started having seizures and that\u2019s literally, [the 2022] photos were taken right after I\u2019d had a seizure at Burning Man.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The model is now sober and preparing to release new music. <span class=\"credit\">FIA \/ BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Delevingne admitted her substance use initially offered relief from years of emotional turmoil stemming from\u00a0childhood trauma, struggles with her mother\u2019s illness and longstanding mental health challenges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first started doing drugs, it was that seeking connection,\u201d she told Cooper. \u201cAnd I felt like I found myself, you know? I was fun. And I loved music. And I loved dancing. And I was like, \u2018Oh, this is someone I really like. Eventually, she found herself using substances alone, a turning point she now recognizes as a warning sign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI knew it was bad when I started doing them alone and how much I liked that and how much I knew that people weren\u2019t judging me,\u201d Delevingne said. \u201cAnd I didn\u2019t judge myself for it. And I could disappear. And that \u2013 I knew it was a problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delevingne acknowledged that her career was thriving while her personal life deteriorated. The \u201cSuicide Squad\u201d star said success often masked the severity of what was happening because she continued working, earning money and maintaining a public image that appeared functional.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The 33-year-old said she hid the extent of her substance abuse while her career continued to flourish. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re successful and when you seem you are doing great \u2013 you have your hair and makeup done \u2013 it\u2019s kind of fine,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople make excuses, people are making money. You are paying for people\u2019s lives and jobs and kids, you know, you don\u2019t wanna stop. You don\u2019t wanna say no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But behind the glamorous public image, Delevingne said her private reality was far darker than anyone realized.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cI knew it was bad when I started doing [drugs] alone and how much I liked that,\u201d she said. <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIf I say I was good at hiding it, people would be like, \u2018No you weren\u2019t.\u2019 But if people thought it was bad, what they saw \u2013 they didn\u2019t see half of it,\u201d she revealed. \u201cThe damage was really being done alone because that\u2019s where no one could stop me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/03\/style\/cara-delevingne-talks-victorias-secret-fashion-show-addiction-on-call-her-daddy\/\">former Victoria\u2019s Secret model<\/a>\u00a0also revealed that she became suicidal during the height of her fame despite appearing to have everything she had ever wanted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the kind of suicidal ideation came back around when I was at my height of fame, when I should have been the most happy,\u201d Delevingne recalled. \u201cAnd I felt the most guilty and I felt the most, like I didn\u2019t deserve any of it. And I was so close to ending my life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The viral photos of Delevingne at Burning Man in 2022 became a wake-up call for the model. Looking back, Delevingne said she was not shocked by the images themselves because she had been living with that version of herself for years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, I realized it was bad, but oh, it was horrible,\u201d she confessed. \u201cThe shame, oh, the shame was really bad. Again, that was that part of myself that I hated, and I was hiding from everyone.
