Most recently, he <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/24\/celebrity-news\/martin-shorts-daughter-katherine-dead-by-apparent-suicide-at-42\/\">lost his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short<\/a>, in February. Katherine died by suicide. She was 42.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Short\u00a0family is devastated by this loss, and asks for privacy at this time. And sometimes, for no reason, it\u2019s red,\u201d he adds. <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The social worker was <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/03\/03\/celebrity-news\/martin-shorts-daughter-katherines-death-certificate-confirms-cause-of-tragic-passing\/\">found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound<\/a> at her Hollywood Hills, California, home.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer also includes adorable old footage of Martin dancing with Katherine and her two siblings when they were young. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeing a dad, it\u2019s as genuine as his breath,\u201d comedian Andrea Martin says of the actor. <\/p>\n<p>Martin is the youngest of his five siblings. His eldest brother died in a car accident when the comedian was just 12 years old.<\/p>\n<p>In his 2012 Guardian interview, Martin recalled being surrounded by \u201ctremendous humor in the house growing up. A lot of laughing.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Short most recently lost his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, (seen above in 2006) who died by suicide in February. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The doc features adorable footage of Katherine and her two siblings when they were young children. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He also explained how the loss of his brother helped shape his perspective on comedy. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the reason all that didn\u2019t throw me sideways was because I had such a solid foundation. Those kinds of situations are horrible but I think that you are either empowered by them or you become a victim of them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Martin\u2019s mother, Olive Hayter, died from cancer when he was just 17 years old. She was 58 years old. <\/p>\n<p>In 2012, Martin reflected on the profound loss for him and their three adopted children \u2014 Katherine, Oliver and Henry \u2014 remembering Dolman as \u201cthe right person\u201d for him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were together for 36 years, but I would have been divorced five times if I hadn\u2019t found the right person,\u201d Martin told\u00a0The Guardian.<\/p>\n<p>In another emotional moment in the trailer, Short\u2019s close friend Catherine O\u2019Hara makes a posthumous appearance. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Martin\u2019s late friend and iconic actress Catherine O\u2019Hara makes a posthumous appearance in the doc (pictured here). <span class=\"credit\">Courtesy of Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Never-before-seen throwback footage of longtime friends O\u2019Hara and Martin is also featured, as seen above. <span class=\"credit\">YouTube\/Netflix<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A previously recorded interview with O\u2019Hara \u2014 conducted before her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/30\/celebrity-news\/schitts-creek-star-catherine-ohara-dead-at-71-report\/\">death in January<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 appears alongside never-before-seen footage of the beloved actress.<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Hara \u2014 who first met Martin in the early \u201970s in Toronto\u2019s improv scene \u2014 reflects on her longtime friend, saying, \u201cI feel like he could improvise to eternity. Couldn\u2019t he?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another scene features archival footage of Martin and O\u2019Hara dancing together in a home.
