fund to help him <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/16\/celebrity-news\/rob-reiners-son-nick-officially-charged-with-2-counts-of-first-degree-murder-in-stabbing-death-of-parents\/\">fight the murder charges<\/a> for his parents\u2019 Rob and Michele Reiner\u2019s deaths.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the \u201cBeing Charlie\u201d writer filed a petition, requesting the funds he claims he was supposed to be paid from his trust when he turned 30 in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The petition, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/nick-reiner-demands-access-to-his-usd1-5m-trust-fund-as-he-faces-murder-charges-for-his-parents-killings-11993682\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obtained by People<\/a>, claimed that Nick was supposed to receive half of the trust \u201coutright when he turned 30\u201d and the other half would be given to him when he turned 35. <\/p>\n<p>Nick, who is charged with the murders of his parents, claimed in the petition that \u201cmonths of repeated inquiries\u201d to the current trustee have \u201coffered a shifting series of excuses and justifications,\u201d including \u201cunsubstantiated \u2018concerns\u2019 about Nick\u2019s so-called competence to \u2018manage a trust.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Nick Reiner (seen above in court) filed a petition, demanding access to $1.5 million trust fund. <span class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">michelereiner\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Nick, now 32, and his legal team are requesting that the first half of the trust payment be released so he can cover his legal fees and place money into his commissary account to \u201cbuy basic support items while incarcerated (e.g., socks and personal hygiene items like soap) within the low spending limits imposed by the jail.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_24-0\">\u201cThese distributions are non-discretionary,\u201d the petition stated. \u201cThe trust does not authorize the Trustee to condition these distribution points on any subjective assessment by the Trustee as to Nick\u2019s intended use of those funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Because the trust is \u201cirrevocable,\u201d Nick \u2014 who has been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/19\/celebrity-news\/nick-reiner-diagnosed-with-schizophrenia-weeks-before-murders-medication-made-him-erratic-and-dangerous\/\">diagnosed with schizophrenia<\/a> \u2014 claimed in the petition that the trustee is not sanctioned to withhold funds from a beneficiary, even if they are deemed incompetent. <\/p>\n<p>The docs state that the trustee can only \u201cmodify the manner of distribution to an incompetent beneficiary.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption claimed that \u201cthere is no judicial declaration that Nick is incompetent, nor has he been determined to lack capacity by the written statement of two licensed physicians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_32-0\">Due to Nick\u2019s \u201cpresent circumstances\u201d of being incarcerated and facing murder charges, the petition alleged it is an \u201cabuse of the Trustee\u2019s discretion to refuse those requests\u201d as no \u201cuse of his funds could be more important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The petition also stated that Nick\u2019s first attorney, Alan Jackson, was retained to represent the former \u201cDopey\u201d podcast co-host with payment negotiated by \u201cNick\u2019s siblings on his behalf.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">romyreiner\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">michelereiner\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, in January, Jackson was \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/07\/celebrity-news\/nick-reiner-arraignment-delayed-again-as-lawyer-alan-jackson-quits-just-before-court-hearing\/\">forced to withdraw<\/a> because <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/14\/celebrity-news\/nick-reiners-former-lawyer-alan-jackson-addresses-why-he-suddenly-dropped-murder-case\/\">funds were not made available<\/a> from this Trust or the Reiner family trusts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths. But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation,\u201d the petition read.<\/p>\n<p>Last December, Michele and Rob were found<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/17\/celebrity-news\/rob-reiners-daughter-romy-didnt-know-mom-michele-was-dead-in-home-when-she-found-actors-body\/\">\u00a0stabbed to death<\/a>\u00a0in their Brentwood, California, home. He was 78 and she was 70.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Mona Shafer Edwards \/ BACKGRID<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The film director and his wife\u2019s death certificates stated that they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/23\/celebrity-news\/new-details-in-rob-and-michele-reiners-murders-emerge-as-death-certificates-are-released\/\">died within \u201cminutes\u201d of receiving \u201cmultiple sharp force injuries\u201d<\/a> with a \u201cknife, by another.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nick was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/12\/15\/celebrity-news\/see-the-dramatic-moment-rob-reiners-son-nick-was-arrested-for-parents-murder\/\">arrested<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths.
