MTV VMAs performance\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F3%2F2026%2F06%2F130408682.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Jennifer Lopez missed out on Britney Spears and Madonna\u2019s iconic 2003 VMAs kiss because she was working on a movie. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was working on a movie,\u00a0\u2018Shall We Dance,\u2019 at the same time, and they just wouldn\u2019t let me out of the movie,\u201d Lopez <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qasWqR95cWs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Andy Cohen<\/a> during Monday\u2019s episode of \u201cWatch What Happens Live.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The \u201cOffice Romance\u201d star, now 56, divulged that she was set to perform alongside the iconic singers in a sultry medley performance of \u201cLike a Virgin\u201d \u2014 a role that ultimately went to Christina Aguilera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe rehearsed and everything,\u201d Lopez told Cohen, noting that she \u201cwent to Madonna\u2019s house\u201d to prepare for the performance. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Jennifer Lopez revealed she missed the famous Britney Spears and Madonna VMA performance in 2003 (as seen above) because she was working on a movie.  <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201chey just wouldn\u2019t let me out of the movie,\u201d Lopez told Andy Cohen on \u201cWatch What Happens Live,\u201d as seen above.  <span class=\"credit\">Charles Sykes\/Bravo via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cIt was me, her and Britney,\u201d Lopez recalled. \u201cShe was playing her guitar, and we were singing.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Though it was the kiss between Madonna, now 67, Spears, now 44, and Aguilera, now 45, that made the performance unforgettable, Lopez said she didn\u2019t rehearse an onstage smooch. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut [Madonna] said that that\u2019s what she wanted to do,\u201d Lopez divulged. \u201cIt was a thing, like, \u2018We\u2019re going to get married, I\u2019m going to be the groom, you guys are going to sing.\u2019 I was the one who was going to come out first and sing \u2018Like a Virgin.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Lopez, seen above earlier this month, said she rehearsed with Spears and Madonna before dropping out of the performance.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cIt was me, her and Britney,\u201d Lopez told Cohen of the rehearsal at Madonna\u2019s house.  <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201cJenny From the Block\u201d hitmaker confessed that she couldn\u2019t \u201creally remember what it was, but it was something like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Though staff on the set of \u201cShall We Dance\u201d allowed her \u201con the weekend to go meet with\u201d Madonna, Lopez said, they ultimately wouldn\u2019t let her \u201cout of the movie to do the actual show.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Christina Aguilera ultimately filled in for the iconic performance.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Spears and Madonna recreated the kiss at Spears\u2019 2022 wedding to Sam Asghari. <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The finished product saw Spears, Madonna and Aguilera take the stage in wedding-themed attire for performances of \u201cLike a Virgin\u201d and \u201cHollywood,\u201d culminating in a three-way kiss that left audiences breathless.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Missy Elliott joined the trio with her hit \u201cWork It.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In January 2022, Madonna said during an Instagram Live that she<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/01\/26\/madonna-wants-to-reenact-2003-britney-spears-kiss-on-tour\/\"> wanted to re-enact the kiss<\/a> with Spears while on tour, saying, \u201cHell yeah! Stadium, baby!
