Derbyshire Police did not <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tech\/artificial-intelligence-used-uk-police-20078716\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_self\">name the officer <\/a>concerned, their role, or reveal the specific details of the suspected misconduct. It didn&#8217;t disclose how many cases may have been tainted or if they resulted in individuals being convicted and jailed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The officer is being investigated over allegations of perverting the course of justice, a charge that has a maximum sentence of life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">It comes after Alex Murray, the National Police Chiefs\u2019 Council lead for AI, said it had told a number of forces to stop using the technology when preparing material for court and other tasks, because they might not be reliable enough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Derbyshire Police said: \u201cA criminal investigation has been launched into an allegation of perverting the course of justice after the alleged use of AI systems by an officer to create evidential material in a number of cases. The force is working closely with the Crown Prosecution Service in relation to any potentially impacted cases.\u201d It added that the investigation was \u201cin its early stages\u201d, so no further details were available.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThe officer involved has been removed from frontline duties, pending the outcome of the investigation. No arrests have been made.\u201d It declined to elaborate on what the evidential material consisted of. The term can be used to describe witness statements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The CPS said: \u201cWe are working with Derbyshire Police as it conducts enquiries into the alleged use of Artificial Intelligence by an officer. We are engaging with defence teams and the courts in appropriate cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">AI misuse earlier this year contributed to the decision of West Midlands chief constable Craig Guildford to retire early.
