Do not proceed unless you\u2019ve watched the \u201cWidows Bay\u201d Season 1 finale, \u201cWe Hope You Enjoyed Your Time!\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the Season 1 finale of <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/15\/entertainment\/5-shows-everyone-is-watching-this-summer-widows-bay-off-campus\/\">Apple\u2019s buzzy horror\/ comedy, \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay,\u201d<\/a> the frazzled mayor, Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys) tried to kill Ruth (K Callan) \u2013 only to get thrown with a plot twist. She confessed that she was secretly his late wife\u2019s mother, which meant that his son, Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick) was her grandson.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This was a big deal because it meant that Evan was the island founder Richard Warren\u2019s (Hamish Linklater) last living descendant. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Hamish Linklater as Richard Warren (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d), the island founder.  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Evan (Kingston Rumi Southwick, pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) turned out to be Ruth\u2019s grandson.  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>As set up in the previous episode, the whole reason why Tom tried to axe Ruth was that killing the last of Richard Warren\u2019s bloodline would break the curse on the island, and save everyone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the Season 1 finale, Tom went to Ruth\u2019s house during a storm and tried to kill her twice \u2013 first by crushing pills and putting powder in her tea, then by nearly smothering her with a pillow when he thought she was napping on her couch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tom was conflicted, and kept muttering to Ruth, \u201cyou\u2019re a good person, you don\u2019t deserve this.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>K Callan as Ruth (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) was happy to give Tom a tour of her home.  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Matthew Rhys as Tom and Stephen Root as Wyck (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) want to break the curse.  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A friendly Ruth seemed oblivious to his murder attempts.\u00a0She was having a blast, giving him a tour of her house and yapping about her herb garden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She eventually confessed to Tom that she once had an affair with a married man, had a baby, and let the man and his wife raise the child.\u00a0Her secret kid was Tom\u2019s late wife, she revealed. An astounded Tom confirmed with Ruth that nobody else knew this information.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere in the episode, the town gathered in a shelter as a dangerous storm raged. Patricia (Kate O\u2019Flynn) and Wyck (Stephen Root) were in charge.\u00a0Things spiraled into chaos when everyone discovered that their stores of food were moldy. The crowd started panicking and fighting.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Sheriff Bechir (Kevin Carroll) was appalled to learn that he and his pregnant wife were trapped on the island, because of the storm \u2013 and, her due date came early.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Sheriff Bechir (Kevin Carroll, pictured on \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) didn\u2019t want his child born into the curse.  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Patricia (Kate O\u2019Flynn, pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) was in charge at the shelter, and it didn\u2019t go well.  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Bechir didn\u2019t want his kid to be born into the curse on the island, so he showed up at Ruth\u2019s house with a gun and shot her.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI won\u2019t damn my child. Patricia said you\u2019d be ending it,\u201d he said to Tom, referring to ending the curse by killing Ruth.\u00a0Bechir added that he came to Ruth\u2019s house because he knew that Tom \u201cwouldn\u2019t\u201d do it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tom told Bechir that Ruth wasn\u2019t the last living descendant, and Bechir held Tom at gunpoint, demanding to know who was.\u00a0Before Tom could say anything, the storm then cleared up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tom (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) was frazzled as he contemplated killing Ruth.  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"> <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>So, seemingly, everything was okay. Ruth was wounded and bleeding, but appeared to be still alive.\u00a0The episode ended with Tom driving off in his car with Evan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But, he noticed the sound of a bell\u00a0 \u2013 signifying that not enough people got fed to the island, and more people will need to be offered as tribute.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s where \u201cWidows Bay\u201d ended, going into Season 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Bechir (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) shot Ruth in desperation to save his kid, but she appeared to survive.  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Clark<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Tom (pictured in \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d) ended Season 1 driving off in his car with his son.  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Season 1 finale was more serious than the rest of the season, but the shift in tone worked. Tom spent most of the episode agonizing over his choice to try to kill a sweet old lady.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rhy\u2019s performance was stellar as always, as Tom unravelled \u2013 if he doesn\u2019t get nominated at the Emmys and Golden Globes, it will be a ridiculous snub.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There were still plenty of laughs, like when Ruth was going through her photo album, and pointing out which men had \u201cmade\u00a0 a pass at her.\u201d\u00a0She also told Tom that she loved one of her ex boyfriends, until, \u201cHe got bit by an animal, and became that animal.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0The show remains delightfully weird. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The horror comedy starring Root and O\u2019Flynn (pictured) has become a word of mouth phenomenon. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Apple reviewed \u201cWidow\u2019s Bay\u201d with O\u2019Flynn (pictured) for a Season 2, but it doesn\u2019t have a premiere date, yet.  <span class=\"credit\">Apple TV<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Apple horror comedy has been the word-of mouth <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/04\/entertainment\/why-widows-bay-is-the-tv-phenomenon-of-the-summer\/\">hit of the summer.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s become one of those shows everyone\u2019s talking about, and we\u2019re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it,\u201d Matt Cherniss, head of programming, Apple TV, said in a statement announcing Season 2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Horror king Guillermo del Toro himself also publicly praised the show, posting on X that it, \u201cmay very well be the best streaming series in a long time\u201d and called it, \u201cmesmerizing.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeason two is about how everything is great on the island and there\u2019s nothing to worry about,\u201d creator Katie Dippold joked in Apple\u2019s statement announcing the renewal. <\/p>\n<p>Season 2 doesn\u2019t have a premiere date yet.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/17\/entertainment\/widows-bay-season-1-ended-with-a-wild-plot-twist\/\" target=\"_blank\">Source link<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Down by the bay\u2026 Warning: Spoilers ahead!
