We had a real bumpy ride,\u201d the actress and director shared on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2xLOnvD5Czc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wednesday\u2019s episode of Alex Cooper\u2019s \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Wilde, 42, recalled the exes were driving home from her 36th birthday party on March 10, 2020, when she asked the \u201cTed Lasso\u201d actor if he bought her a present.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Olivia Wilde (seen above on \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d) revealed she knew her relationship with Jason Sudeikis \u201cwas over\u201d when they had a tense conversation on her 36th birthday in 2020. <span class=\"credit\">Youtube\/@callherdaddy<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (pictured above) said she asked Sudeikis if he got her a birthday gift, and he responded, \u201cWhat would I get you, Olivia? I don\u2019t know you,&#8217;\u201d Wilde remembered.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cDon\u2019t Worry Darling\u201d director admitted Sudeikis, 50, \u201cwasn\u2019t wrong\u201d in his sharp response because they \u201cdidn\u2019t know each other anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She said the interaction inspired her to make her new movie <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/26\/entertainment\/jaw-dropping-the-invite-with-olivia-wilde-seth-rogen-is-already-the-funniest-movie-of-the-year\/\">\u201cThe Invite,\u201d<\/a> which is about a struggling married couple played by Wilde and Seth Rogen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can get to a place in a relationship where you stop engaging in the knowing of each other and the curiosity of each other, and you find yourself in a place where you\u2019re like, \u2018I don\u2019t even know you,&#8217;\u201d Wilde explained. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (seen above with host Alex Cooper) acknowledged the former couple \u201cdidn\u2019t know each other anymore.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Youtube\/@callherdaddy<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (seen above with Sudeikis at the 2016 NBA All-Star Game) said the decision to split \u201cwas f\u2014ing tough.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Wilde said the conversation made the former couple \u201crealize\u201d that their relationship \u201cwas over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was f\u2013king tough,\u201d she admitted. \u201cIt brought us to the place of, \u2018OK, this is done, we\u2019re gonna end this.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But when the COVID-19 lockdown happened days later, Wilde and Sudeikis had to keep living together with <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/05\/03\/jason-sudeikis-spotted-playing-with-his-kids-in-london-park\/\">their two children,<\/a> son Otis, now 12, and daughter Daisy, now 9.<\/p>\n<p>Wilde said the exes tried to make their relationship work for the sake of their kids, but eventually they realized they were better off separated.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (seen above with Sudeikis at iHeartRadio\u2019s Z100 Jingle Ball 2019) also said the former couple tried to fix their relationship during COVID lockdown. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images for iHeartMedia<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Wilde (pictured above out in NYC on Monday) said the end of her relationship with Sudeikis inspired her new movie, \u201cThe Invite.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">GC Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The pair, who were never married, were together for nearly a decade and engaged for seven years <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2021\/07\/13\/jason-sudeikis-breaks-his-silence-on-olivia-wilde-split\/\">before their split<\/a> was confirmed in November 2020.<\/p>\n<p>After their breakup, Sudeikis <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2022\/04\/27\/olivia-wilde-served-custody-papers-by-jason-sudeikis-during-cinemacon\/\">served Wilde with custody papers<\/a>\u00a0while she was onstage at CinemaCon 2022.
