their two daughters <\/a>to celebrate the opening of the former president\u2019s new 19-acre presidential center on Chicago\u2019s South Side.<\/p>\nFormer Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett introduced Aguilera, revealing that they asked her to sing \u201cone of President Obama\u2019s favorite songs,\u201d but the Grammy Award winner told them she had never sang \u201cWhat a Wonderful World\u201d in public before.<\/p>\n
However, Aguilera \u201ccame up with a new arrangement\u201d for the event, Jarrett shared.<\/p>\nAguilera (seen above) performed in front of Barack and Michelle, who sat with their two daughters and the Bushes and Clintons. Three years later, the \u201cBeautiful\u201d singer performed at a Democratic National Committee (DNC) event, billed as \u201cEvening with Barack Obama,\u201d at a private Beverly Hills residence. <\/p>\n
In the last presidential election, Aguilera openly supported Kamala Harris over the eventual victor, Donald Trump.<\/p>\nAguilera (pictured above during her performance) supported Obama at past Democratic events. Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nOther performers on Thursday included Jennifer Hudson, who sang the\u00a0National Anthem and a cover of \u201cTo Dream the Impossible Dream,\u201d followed by The Roots, John Legend, Marc Anthony and U2.<\/p>\n
Pearl Jam\u2019s Eddie Vedder also took the stage, joined by young members of the nonprofit Guitars Over Guns.<\/p>\n
Tons of stars made it to the opening, such as Oprah, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Hanks, Stephen Colbert, David Letterman, Conan O\u2019Brien, Anne Hathaway, Gabrielle Union, Quinta Brunson and Mark Hamill.<\/p>\nThe Obamas (seen above with Bill and Hillary Clinton) were on the scene for the opening of the 44th president\u2019s new presidential center in Chicago. The 44th president\u2019s new center in the city where he once lived features an eight-story museum, a replica Oval Office, an NBA-regulation basketball court, community gardens and branch of the Chicago Public Library.<\/p>\n
In his introductory video, Barack spoke about what the South Side of Chicago means to him. <\/p>\nBarack (seen above with Hillary) wore a black suit with a blue tie to the event. \u201cFrom this place, our circle and our aspirations grew, because the story of the South Side has always been a story and a possibility, and now we start writing a new chapter,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
The center officially opens to the public on Friday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
