Please take a moment to help me remember a great guy. Beau is pictured above in \u201cTrue Blue.\u201d  <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9NBC\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Born in New York City in 1944, the actor initially embarked on a career as an athlete \u2014 playing on the New York Jets practice squad for three seasons, and completing two seasons with the Canadian Football League\u2019s Montreal Alouettes\u00a0and Hamilton Tiger-Cats.<\/p>\n<p>He launched his acting career by appearing in the 1980 play \u201cThe Set-Up\u201d\u00a0at the American Theater of Actors, and starring in 1980s television series including\u00a0\u201cTrue Blue\u201d and comedy sketch show \u201cRituals.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>His best-known television role was as Lieutenant Harding Welsh of the Chicago Police Department in TV\u2019s  \u201cDue South\u201d in the 90s. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Beau began his career as an athlete before transitioning to acting in the 1980s.
