It felt like something inside of me squeezing all of the air out of me, and at the same time, It felt like I was exploding outwardly,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.com\/tvshowbiz\/article-15914703\/Daveigh-Chase-death-ring-drug-mother.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told the Daily Mail<\/a> in comments published on Friday. <\/p>\n<p>She told the outlet that after hearing about her daughter\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/17\/celebrity-news\/daveigh-chase-star-of-the-ring-and-lilo-stitch-dead-at-35\/\">death on Tuesday at age 35<\/a>, she was in disbelief. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI let out this guttural scream and I just was running,\u201d she recalled. \u201cAnd these weird sounds were coming out of me, these kind of, like, primeval sounds.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Cathy Chase spoke out about her daughter Daveigh\u2019s death in an interview published Friday. They\u2019re seen above in 2004.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cAnd I went out into the backyard, and I was screaming, \u201cNo, no, no, no!\u201d I am in so much pain but I hope her soul heard me,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n<p>Cathy told the outlet that on Tuesday evening \u2014 the day before news of the \u201cLilo &amp; Stitch\u201d star\u2019s death emerged \u2014 she\u2019d been searching online forums for clues of where her \u201csunshine\u201d daughter might be, something she\u2019s done on a nightly basis. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>\u201cI was screaming, \u201cNo, no, no, no!\u201d Cathy told the Daily Mail of learning of her daughter\u2019s death. They\u2019re seen here in 2007.  <span class=\"credit\">WireImage<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe Ring\u201d actress and her mother had not seen each other since 2019. Cathy, who lives in Los Angeles, told the outlet that she\u2019d frequently check the LA County Medical Examiner\u2019s system for her daughter\u2019s name, as well. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would look at their list of unidentified bodies,\u201d Cathy divulged. \u201cIt was very difficult, but you do everything you can as a mother.\u201d <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>When TMZ broke the news that the \u201cSpirited Away\u201d voice actress \u2014 who had reportedly been <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/17\/celebrity-news\/ghastly-video-shows-lilo-stitch-actress-daveigh-chase-wasting-away-on-skid-row-months-before-death\/\">living near Los Angeles\u2019 infamous Skid Row<\/a> \u2014 had died after battling meningitis and a blood infection leading to sepsis, Cathy confessed she thought it was \u201cfake news.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then all of a sudden, it\u2019s all of these different legitimate sites had her name and I realized that it wasn\u2019t fake,\u201d she shared. <\/p>\n<p>The grieving mother identified her daughter\u2019s body on Thursday at a Los Angeles hospital, and prayed with a chaplain while \u201ctouching the glass\u201d because it was \u201cas close as we could get.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a beautiful experience, and, and I feel very blessed, too, have been able to share that with my daughter.\u201d <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Cathy said she thought it was \u201cfake news\u201d at first. Daveigh is pictured here in 2012.  <span class=\"credit\">FilmMagic<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cathy told the outlet that her daughter\u2019s problems began in 2016, when she was injured in a motorcycle accident and began taking painkillers. <\/p>\n<p>After that, Cathy said the \u201cBig Love\u201d actress was \u201cseeking drugs and was partying with the wrong people,\u201d and said despite rumors, she \u201cnever kicked [her] daughter out.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe wanted freedom and these people got her hooked on some drugs,\u201d Cathy claimed. \u201cThat was the beginning.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Cathy said she\u2019d last seen her daughter during a jail visit after she faced two counts of alleged burglary in 2019, describing Daveigh as \u201ccompletely gone, like out of her mind.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI honestly thought there was something wrong with her,\u201d she recalled. \u201cMy daughter was never diagnosed with mental health other than PTSD. She went back to the streets and I couldn\u2019t find her,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The bereaved mom said it \u201cupsets\u201d. her that  \u201cpeople are saying I must\u2019ve been a bad mother,\u201d but insisted she \u201cnever gave up\u201d on the \u201cDonnie Darko\u201d actress. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a mother, you don\u2019t give up on your child.
