Tom Glynn-Carney<\/a>) and Helaena (Phia Saban), are married to each other, and have kids together.\u00a0<\/p>\nAemond\u2019s half-sister, Rhaenyra (Emma D\u2019Arcy), meanwhile, is married to her uncle, Daemon (Matt Smith).\u00a0<\/p>\nMatt Smith and Emma D\u2019Arcy (pictured in Season 3 play Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen, another incest couple. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAemond\u2019s brother, Aegon, is also married to his sister, Heleana (played by Phia Saban, pictured in \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d). HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nThe Targaryen family tree is more of a circle.\u00a0However, most of the incest is between siblings or cousins.\u00a0 Even within this family that views it as acceptable, it\u2019s taboo between a parent and child.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alicent also didn\u2019t grow up with this family \u201ctradition.\u201d She married into House Targaryen. <\/p>\n
She pushed her kids into it, in order to fit in with Targaryen customs. But, judging from her freaked-out expression when Aemond kisses her, she\u2019s not comfortable participating in incest herself.\u00a0<\/p>\nAemond is in charge because his brother Aegon, played by Tom Glynn Carney (pictured in Season 3) ran away. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAlicent (pictured in \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d Season 3\u2033) is clearly freaked out when her son kisses her. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSet over a hundred years before the events of \u201cGame of Thrones,\u201d the show follows a civil war between Rhaenyra\u2019s side of the Targaryen family, and Aemond and Alicent\u2019s side, as they fight over the Iron Throne.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rhaenyra\u2019s side is often called \u201cTeam Black\u201d while Aemond and Alicent side is known as \u201cTeam Green.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Aemond is now in charge of Team Green as the de facto king, because his badly burned older brother, King Aegon, has run away.\u00a0Aemond has always been weird, volatile, and bloodthirsty, which is why he\u2019s a fan favorite. When he\u2019s onscreen, drama happens. <\/p>\nAegon (pictured in Season 3) was king, but he got burned and left. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nAemond (pictured in \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d Season 3) is now basically King. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nRight before Aemond kissed her, Alicent was trying\u00a0to convince him to leave King\u2019s Landing, and fly his dragon to Harrenhal.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Unbeknownst\u00a0to Aemond, Alicent secretly made a deal with Rhaenyra to try to end the war. Alicent promised to open the gates so that Rhaenyra could come to King\u2019s Landing and take the Iron Throne for herself, without bloodshed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Alicent promised to hand over Aegon for Rhaenyra to kill. In return, Rhaenyra would spare Alicent, her daughter and grandkids.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Aemond and Aegon have ruined this plan, as King Aegon goes missing and Aemond rules in his place. Alicent can\u2019t hand Aegon over to Rhaenyra when he\u2019s MIA. And Aemond would never go along with this plan to cooperate with Rhaenyra. <\/p>\nAlicent (pictured in Season 3 with Aemond) was trying to butter him up to convince him to leave. HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nCooke (pictured at the \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d Season 3 premiere in London on June 8) plays the increasingly stressed-out Alicent. lounisphotography \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSo, Alicent is trying to butter up Aemond and push him to leave King\u2019s Landing, in order to salvage her plan to let Rhaenyra in, and end the war.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As Alicent tells Aemond that he should have been born first, so that he could have been king all along, he kisses her. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s unclear if Aemond kisses his mom out of true romantic desire \u2013 that guy is a nut.\u00a0More likely, he did it as a twisted sign of affection or as a gesture of control.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
