And somehow, from the other side? You continue to parent. He was 48.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,\u201d\u00a0Kimberly shared\u00a0via a joint Instagram statement\u00a0at the time. \u201cHe met his final days with courage, faith and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The actor had been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/11\/03\/celebrity-news\/james-van-der-beek-diagnosed-with-colorectal-cancer\/\">battling stage 3 cancer<\/a>\u00a0since August 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2024, he told People magazine that he was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/11\/03\/celebrity-news\/why-james-van-der-beek-was-forced-to-reveal-his-cancer-diagnosis-early\/\">forced to reveal his diagnosis\u00a0<\/a>after learning \u201ca tabloid was going to run with the news.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>James passed away in February after battling colorectal cancer. He was 48. <span class=\"credit\">vanderkimberly\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d alum had been\u00a0battling stage 3 cancer\u00a0since August 2023. <span class=\"credit\">vanderkimberly\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>That same month, he confessed that cancer treatment had put a financial strain on his family and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2024\/11\/30\/celebrity-news\/james-van-der-beek-selling-varsity-blues-merch-to-help-pay-for-cancer-treatment\/\">began selling autographed \u201cVarsity Blues\u201d merch<\/a>\u00a0to help fund his care.<\/p>\n<p>James also sold\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.com\/GMA\/Culture\/james-van-der-beek-auctioning-off-dawsons-creek\/story\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">memorabilia from \u201cDawson\u2019s Creek,\u201d<\/a> including his character Dawson Leery\u2019s clothing and bedroom decor.<\/p>\n<p>In March of that year, the \u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d alum heartbreakingly<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2025\/03\/15\/celebrity-news\/james-van-der-beek-shares-how-cancer-affected-his-marriage-and-family\/\"> admitted he \u201ccould no longer be the husband that was helpful\u00a0<\/a>to [his] wife\u201d and \u201ccould no longer be a father, who could pick up his kids and put them and be there for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The \u201cVarsity Blues\u201d star, seen here, was forced to reveal his diagnosis in November 2024 after learning \u201ca tabloid was going to run with the news.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">vanderkimberly\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>As his illness progressed, James, seen here with one of his children, admitted he could not be the husband or dad he wanted to be, but his family stuck by his side through it all. <span class=\"credit\">vanderkimberly\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>However, Kimberly, 43,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DG8ls6kghgM\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote in a post<\/a>\u00a0of her own on Instagram how much she considers her husband a \u201ctreasure\u201d despite the shortcomings he believes he has because of his illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like the luckiest lady in the world to be married to you,\u201d the film producer wrote.<\/p>\n<p>James and Kimberly have been married since August 2010.
