href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/03\/celebrity-news\/cops-address-possible-ransom-note-in-savannah-guthries-moms-disappearance\/\">ransom notes sent regarding Nancy Guthrie\u2019s disappearance<\/a> in February issued a \u201csputtering and labored\u201d apology for her inadvertent death, according to a new report.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to the investigation <a href=\"https:\/\/airmail.news\/issues\/2026-6-20\/inside-the-search-for-nancy-guthrie-part-ii\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told Air Mail<\/a>, in a piece published Saturday, that the message arrived on Feb. 6 with a \u201cnew, less confident tone\u201d than a previous note from the same I.P. address.<\/p>\n<p>Savannah Guthrie\u2019s mom\u2019s alleged kidnapper went on to float the possibility of returning the 84-year-old\u2019s body for money, with the amount not specified.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The individual previously \u2014 hours after Nancy <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/02\/celebrity-news\/savannah-guthries-mom-84-reported-missing-in-southern-arizona-homicide-detectives-involved\/\">was reported missing<\/a> from her Tucson, Arizona, home on Feb. 1 \u2014 asked for $4 million for Nancy\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n<p>At the time, the message referred to the matriarch as feeling \u201csafe but scared.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message asked that the millions in Bitcoin be sent by Feb. 5 \u2014 \u201cor else\u201d \u2014 and bumped the number up to $6 million if not received by Feb. 9.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of sending the hefty sum, officials <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/11\/celebrity-news\/bitcoin-account-tied-to-nancy-guthries-ransom-note-suddenly-shows-activity\/\">sent $152 to the Bitcoin address<\/a> in question \u2014 hoping to tempt the person to extract the money as cash and, therefore, become traceable.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A note from the same I.P. address had described the 84-year-old as \u201csafe but scared\u201d days prior. <span labeled this unsuccessful attempt to \u201ctickl[e] the wire\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/06\/22\/celebrity-news\/the-catastrophic-mistake-nancy-guthrie-investigation-suffered-in-its-early-days-report\/\">critical error in the investigation\u2019s early days<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cToday\u201d show co-host seemingly spoke to Hoda Kotb about those specific ransom notes in her <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/03\/25\/celebrity-news\/today-shows-savannah-guthrie-sobs-in-agony-during-first-interview-since-mom-nancys-unbearable-disappearance\/\">first interview discussing tend to <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/03\/26\/entertainment\/savannah-guthrie-believes-two-ransom-notes-in-mom-nancys-disappearance-are-real\/\">believe those are real<\/a>,\u201d she said at the time.<\/p>\n<p>She and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/parents\/savannah-guthrie-family-tree\/\">her siblings<\/a> \u2014 brother Camron Guthrie and sister Annie Guthrie \u2014 directly addressed the alleged abductor in multiple Instagram videos, pleading for their mom\u2019s return.<\/p>\n<p>After the Feb. 6 message with the apology, she said, \u201cWe received your message and understand.
